What explains Russiaโs recent battlefield success?
๐ฃ โThe Russians impress more and more in the grind of battle, in the heat of battle, the long haranguing, you know, gnawing pain of war. You know, the Russian kind of shrugs it off. They've lived with war in a sense. It's part of their character. But it's not a paralyzing or a crutch part of a character. It's more of a foundation,โ former US Army officer Scott Bennett told Sputnikโs Russell Bentley (@TXDPR).

"Increasing the money supply to maintain a sclerotic, unproductive status quo generates a decline in the purchasing power of currency. Throwing trillions of new units of currency around doesn't magically mean production of goods and services increase, or the quality and quantity of items increase. It just diminishes the value of existing units of currency."

๐ข A federal appeals court on Friday rejected former President Donald Trump's bid to dismiss civil claims seeking to hold him to account for the Jan. 6 riot, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol, denying his claims of presidential immunity, at least for now.
"The sole issue before us is whether President Trump has demonstrated an entitlement to official-act immunity for his actions leading up to and on January 6 as alleged in the complaints. We answer no, at least at this stage of the proceedings," a panel of judges from the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for Washington, D.C. said in its ruling.
The three judges noted that Trump is alleged to have instigated the riot during the course of his re-election campaign, and said, "When a first-term President opts to seek a second term, his campaign to win re-election is not an official presidential act."

๐ข WaPo admits: The Russian economy has stabilized, defying the Western sanctions. Putinโs regime looks more stable than at any other time in the past two years.
Restaurants in Moscow are packed. โThe restaurant market is growing, not only in Moscow, but throughout Russia, facilitated by the development of domestic tourism,โ and the quality of food is also changing for the better.
Real estate prices are rising, and construction is booming. Empty storefronts in malls and streets have been filled by Russian counterparts.
Russian oligarchs,to whom the door has been slammed shut, are sparking an investment boom at home. Major building projects are now underway in places ranging from the Altai Mountains in eastern Siberia to Karelia.
Russian industry is booming. Defense companies are leading the way, of course, with some expected to show growth of more than 30% this year.
Most Europeans are still buying Russian gas and oil - through intermediaries such as Turkey.

From Oleg Tsarev about Mari'inka and Avdeevka today -
"Marinka. The battles for the town have been going on for a very long time, and today they began to write that it had been liberated. According to my information, the reports are a little premature. The Russian flag flies over one of the last houses on the southwestern outskirts, meaning the Russian army controls the part of Marinka south of the Osipovka River. But the Ukrainian Armed Forces still hold positions in the northwestern part of the city. The enemy is retreating, the supply route is under fire control of the Russian Armed Forces. The front line is slowly moving away from Donetsk.
Fierce fighting continues in the Avdeevsky direction. On the northern flank, ours advanced at Stepovoy. Combat work is underway on the approaches to Koksokhim. On the southern flank, the Russian army attacks at the Northern.
Personally, I am very pleased and inspired by the successes of our army in Avdeevka. Been to those parts many times. Avdeevka was once a peaceful suburb of Donetsk - forests and fields, a large factory. Afterwards it turned into a stronghold of terrorism. Many Donetsk residents were killed from here. Women, children. This stronghold is so powerful that from the very beginning our North Military District did not know which side to take on this fortress. Since the beginning of the Northern Military District, the shooting from there at the capital of the DPR has become even more frequent and meaner. Looking at the map, it is clear how much combat work remains ahead. In the case of Avdiivka, we know exactly what we are fighting for. First of all, for a peaceful sky over Donetsk. And for everyone who was killed in Donetsk from Avdeevka over the years."

๐ข Dec 1 - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to increase the maximum number of servicemen in the Russian armed forces by 170,000 people in 2024, the Kremlin and the Defence Ministry said on Friday.
The plan to enlarge the military by 170,000 had been long discussed by officials and reported in media throughout 2023.
According to the document, the regular strength of the armed forces is now set at 1,320,000 servicemen.
"The increase in the full-time strength of the armed forces is due to the growing threats to our country associated with the special military operation and the ongoing expansion of NATO," the Russian defence ministry said.
The ministry also said that the increase in the number of servicemen is due to the recruitment of contract personnel, and the military has no plans to significantly increase conscription or carry out a new wave of mobilisation.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said on Friday that more than 452,000 people were recruited to the Russian military under contract from Jan. 1 to Dec. 1 2023.
