🇷🇺🇪🇬📞 On June 17, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration of the Arab Republic of Egypt Badr Abdelatty.

The discussion primarily addressed the unprecedented escalation in the Middle East. The Ministers expressed profound concern regarding Israel’s use of force against Iran, which constitutes a violation of the UN Charter and international law.

The Heads of diplomacy underscored the urgent necessity to cease hostilities and refrain from actions that could exacerbate armed confrontation and expand the conflict zone, with inevitable negative repercussions for the entire region.

In this context, Sergey Lavrov highlighted the joint statement issued by the foreign ministries of 20 Arab and Muslim nations, including Egypt, which calls for an immediate ceasefire and collective endeavours to de-escalate tensions. The Egyptian Side highly commended Russia’s readiness to offer the necessary mediation for a political and diplomatic resolution to the crisis.

Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Gennady Gatilov, at the plenary session of the Conference on Disarmament:

📍June 17, 2025, Geneva

❗️ The Russian Federation expresses its serious concern over the dangerous escalation of tensions in the Middle East, which could have the most adverse impact on the activities of our forum.

We condemn the military actions undertaken by the State of Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran, launched on the night of June 13 in violation of the UN Charter and international law. We are convinced that targeted strikes against civilian objects of a sovereign State, including peaceful nuclear facilities, cannot be justified. The international community cannot and must not remain indifferent to such actions.

🚨 Recent events eloquently prove that a deliberate decision has been made by West Jerusalem in favour of further escalation of tensions. The Russian side has repeatedly warned of the counterproductive and harmful nature of such military adventures, which not only pose a direct threat to stability and security in the region, but are also fraught with a large-scale nuclear catastrophe.

☢️ We are particularly concerned that Israel carried out its attacks in the midst of a session of the IAEA Board of Governors on Iranian nuclear programme and just before another round of indirect contacts between Iranian and U.S. representatives on this topic.

📉 Unfortunately, despite constructive efforts of our country and those of some other States, the situation is now developing according to the most negative and unpredictable scenario, which could have dire consequences not only for the Middle East but also for the entire world. Now, more than ever, the international community must provide an unambiguous legal and political assessment of Israel’s actions, as well as support all diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing the degree of confrontation and returning to negotiations.

🕊 We urge the parties to exercise restraint in order to prevent further deterioration of the situation, and descent into a full-scale war.

🇷🇺🇮🇩 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks during a joint news conference with Foreign Minister of Indonesia Sugiono following their talks (Moscow, June 17, 2025)

💬 Sergey Lavrov: As usual, we held talks with Foreign Minister of Indonesia Sugiono in an atmosphere of trust, and in an open, friendly and constructive manner.

Once again, we noted the fact that our two countries marked 75 years of Russia-Indonesia diplomatic relations in February 2025. These relations have been gathering momentum lately. We have established regular trust-based political dialogue at the highest and high levels. There are also regular inter-parliamentary exchanges. Today, we expressed our shared interest in having our respective political parties work with certain neighbouring countries and other nations. In addition, the ruling parties of both Russia and Indonesia could contribute to various frameworks which shape our strategic partnership.

We had a detailed discussion of our bilateral agenda, as well as regional and international affairs. Both our countries are looking forward to stepping up cooperation in defence and security matters, in particular in cybersecurity, law enforcement, including fighting cybercrime, drug trafficking, and extremism. We also spoke out in favour of consolidating the legal framework governing our relations.

We noted that cooperation between Russian and Indonesian navies for holding joint exercises has been gathering momentum. As usual, building on its existing experience and know-how, our country is ready to review any requests our Indonesian friends might have in terms of our military-technical cooperation <...>

Having Indonesia sign a free trade agreement with the EAEU could have a major impact in terms of strengthening economic cooperation with our Indonesian friends. This agreement is about to be finalised. We hope that it will be signed without delay <...>

We pointed out that our positions on the majority of international issues, including the most important current matters, coincide or are similar. I am referring to the situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian territories, and Israel’s attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is necessary for the international community to make every possible effort to calm down and deescalate the situation and promote settlement of any disputes at the negotiating table.

It is delightful that Indonesia has joined BRICS as a full member. We emphasised that our joint work within this framework will help strengthen the multipolar foundations of global politics and economy.

We share an interest in the constructive development of the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, so that any attempts to incite confrontation there fail. Relations between Russia and ASEAN are of great significance in this context. We welcome Jakarta’s resolve to continue to encourage the development of Russia-ASEAN cooperation, in particular in light of the 35th anniversary of our dialogue partnership with the Association, which we will mark next year. We drew the attention of our colleagues to the initiative for creating a Eurasian architecture of equal and indivisible security, which the Russian Federation is promoting jointly with many other countries and which will be open to any country on the continent, unlike the schemes advocated by our Western colleagues in the form of Indo-Pacific strategies.

I expressed gratitude to our friends for their balanced stance on the conflict in Ukraine, for their understanding of the situation and their recognition of the futility of pandering to the attempts to include the Ukrainian issue in the agenda of all international organisations and platforms.

⚡️ Russian Foreign Ministry Statement in connection with the escalation of the Iranian-Israeli conflict

The current escalation of the Iranian-Israeli conflict poses risks of further destabilisation across the region, particularly in the states neighbouring Israel and Iran.

The firm and unwavering response of the global majority to Israeli strikes on Iranian territory, including its nuclear energy infrastructure, alongside the outcomes of the UN Security Council’s emergency session on June 13 and the special session of the IAEA Board of Governors on June 16, underscores that the confrontational approach and destructive actions of the Israeli leadership receive understanding and support solely from those states which are de facto accomplices, motivated by opportunistic interests.

It was precisely these “sympathisers” who exerted pressure on the leadership of the Agency to prepare a controversial “comprehensive assessment” of Iran’s nuclear programme, the flaws of which were subsequently exploited to push through a biased anti-Iran resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors on June 12. This resolution effectively provided a green light to actions by West Jerusalem, leading to tragedy. Clearly, the attempts of the Western camp to manipulate the global nuclear non-proliferation regime in order to settle political scores with disfavoured nations come at a high cost to the international community and are entirely unacceptable.

Israel’s continued, intensive attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran are unlawful under international law, pose unacceptable threats to international security, and drive the world closer to a nuclear catastrophe – the consequences of which will be felt globally, including in Israel itself.

Russia calls on the Israeli leadership to reconsider its actions and immediately cease its raids on nuclear installations and sites under IAEA safeguards and subject to IAEA verification.

The Russian side expects the leadership of the Agency to promptly prepare a detailed written report for consideration by the IAEA Board of Governors and the UN Security Council. This report must provide objective and unvarnished assessments of the damage caused by Israeli military actions to the safety of Iran’s nuclear energy complex, as well as to the application of IAEA safeguards in Iran – including the intimidation of inspectors on the ground, whose lives have been placed in grave danger.

❗️ Russia acknowledges Iran’s clear statements reaffirming its unwavering commitment to obligations under the NPT and its readiness to resume contacts with the United States to explore potential solutions that would dispel any unfounded suspicions and prejudices regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme – provided Israeli attacks cease. Moscow supports this stance and firmly maintains that a sustainable resolution can only be reliably achieved through diplomacy and negotiations.

The objectives of nuclear non-proliferation, the cornerstone of which remains the NPT, must not be pursued through aggression or at the cost of innocent lives.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during his meeting with Foreign Minister of Uganda Jeje Odongo (Moscow, June 18, 2025)

💬 I am delighted to see you.

We attach a lot of importance to our cooperation with Uganda. President Yoweri Museveni attended both the first and the second #RussiaAfrica summits and took part in them proactively by pushing for a new African agenda.

It was also an honour for me to receive you in November 2024 in Sochi on the sidelines of the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum.

In our current efforts to work with the African Union and national governments, Russia tends to focus on carrying out the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Action Plan 2023–2026 as adopted at the Second Russia-Africa Summit. It sets forth specific priority areas.

We welcome Uganda as a #BRICS partner country. Its accession to this status was one of the main outcomes of the Kazan summit.

We look forward to working with our friends in Uganda within this new framework.

🗓 President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin met with Dilma Rousseff, President of the BRICS New Development Bank on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (June 18, 2025)

💬 Vladimir Putin: Ms Rousseff, colleagues, friends.

I am very glad to see you here, and first of all I want to congratulate you on your re-election to the position of the head of the New Development Bank.

This means that all members of the bank highly appreciate your work. Indeed, recently, the NDB has approved and financed approximately 120 projects worth $39 billion.

Of course, there are issues that require special attention. I mean the expansion of the possibility of settlements in national currencies, and further joint efforts to create a digital platform for settlements and investments.

At the last summit of BRICS leaders, we also talked about this in detail. I am aware that you also support all these initiatives, and I really hope that we will work together in these areas.

We are very glad to see you at the Economic Forum in St Petersburg. Welcome!

Joint statement during Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the freedom of expression at the 59th session of the Human Rights Council

📍 June 18, 2025, Geneva

🎙The Russian Federation has the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of a group of countries.

📣 Freedom of expression is one of the fundamental human rights enshrined in international human rights instruments.

❗️ However, the exercise of this right faces the greatest number of challenges today. This occurs particularly in those States that prefer to present themselves as champions of the promotion and protection of human rights. Their total control over information is taking ever more sophisticated forms. International obligations regarding freedom of expression, equal access to information, respect for journalists’ rights and their safety as well as the maintenance of media pluralism continue to be blatantly violated in favor of the bloc’s military and political interests. This is especially evident in multiple cases of the application of “double standards” when assessing the situation with press freedom around the world. These countries and their alliances continue to systematically exclude undesirable foreign media presence from their information spaces. Discriminatory campaigns and targeted repressions against journalists include inter alia expulsions, denial of access to events, inclusion in “blacklists,” freezing of bank accounts, intimidation and defamation, criminal prosecution, fines and harassment. All these unlawful actions are being justified under the contrived pretext of “combating disinformation”.

➡️ All these egregious violations of the freedom of expression require a principled and impartial reaction by the human rights machinery, including the Human Rights Council and its Special Rapporteur on the freedom of expression.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s video message to the organisers, participants and guest of the 19th General Assembly of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA; Moscow, June 19, 2025)

💬 I am delighted to greet the organisers, participants and guests of the 19th General Assembly of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), which is taking place as part of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

This Organisation has been operating as one of the biggest international associations of news agencies for many years now with a mission to encourage media outlets from across Eurasia, the Asia Pacific Region and the Middle East to exchange experience and share their best practices. It has been contributing to ensuring unbiased and impartial coverage of key international developments and has done a great deal to promote the values and high standards of honest journalism, while also defending the rights of all media professionals without distinction and free from any discrimination. Acting along these lines, it has helped make this world better, for which it deserves our respect and support.

You have quite a packed agenda for this gathering. It covers a wide range of matters all journalists face, from fighting fakes and misinformation to using artificial intelligence in your work.

Apart from plenary sessions, the General Assembly will also serve as a platform for holding meetings with Russian political and civil society leaders. You will also get to discover St Petersburg, Russia’s northern capital.

🤝 I am convinced that this Assembly will be constructive and fruitful. Its resolutions and recommendations will inject positive momentum into the politics-free dialogue and cooperation between various media outlets from the participating countries for promoting trust and mutual understanding in international and regional affairs.

🎙 Comment by Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov following 🇷🇺🇨🇳 a telephone conversation with President of China Xi Jinping (June 19 2025)

💬 President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping. The phone call took place in keeping with the mutual agreement of the two Sides. This was a friendly and constructive conversation with a primary focus on the escalation in the Middle East.

The two Sides share identical approaches and firmly condemn Israel’s actions in violation of the UN Charter and other international norms.

Moscow and Beijing have adopted a position of principle in their belief that the current situation and matters relating to the Iranian nuclear programme cannot be resolved by force, while a solution can only be achieved by political and diplomatic means.

The President of Russia informed his colleague about his latest international contacts with a focus on his telephone conversations with the key actors in the context of the confrontation between Israel and Iran.

The Russian leader reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to offer its good offices, if necessary. <...>

In view of this increasingly challenging environment, the two Leaders agreed to instruct their respective teams in the relevant agencies and services of the two countries to work closely together in the coming days by sharing insights and perspectives. <...>

The conversation organically shifted to the bilateral agenda, with both Leaders stressing that the Chinese President’s May visit to Moscow helped set new important goals and benchmarks for the governments and relevant agencies in their ongoing efforts to reinforce the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

It was emphasised that the Chinese President’s participation as the main guest in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War held special significance and served as a compelling testament to our shared steadfast positions in upholding historical truth and preserving the memory of the heroic feats of our forefathers. <...>

It has been agreed that the next time the Leaders will see each other will be on Chinese soil during the SCO Summit in Tianjin on August 31 – September 1. They will take part in the festivities marking the 80th anniversary of victory over militarist Japan and the end of World War II in Beijing on September 3. Full-scale bilateral talks will be held on September 2.

📈 Despite a number of adverse external factors, it was noted that trade and economic cooperation continues to gain momentum. Last year, mutual trade broke another record at almost $245 billion. <...>

The Leaders of Russia and China emphasised their mutual interest in strengthening cooperation on pressing international issues and coordinating their efforts within #BRICS, the #SCO, the #UN, and other international platforms. <...>

It was noted that it would be beneficial, in the spirit of the comprehensive strategic partnership between our countries, to coordinate mutual approaches so that the #CentralAsia region becomes a model of genuine stability, economic prosperity, and constructive cooperation.

☝️ The information we received from the President of China was highly significant and useful to us, particularly in light of our own preparations for the second high-level meeting in the Russia–Central Asia format, which is scheduled for October 10 in Dushanbe.

The Heads of State once again expressed their satisfaction with the unprecedented level of Russian-Chinese relations, and both our President and the President of China remarked at the conclusion that they were very pleased with the exchange of views. The exchange was indeed highly productive, as it addressed the most pressing issues currently on the agenda, both internationally and in terms of developing our bilateral relations and contacts.

The conversation lasted approximately an hour, and the Leaders bid each other farewell in a very warm and friendly manner.
