🇷🇺🇧🇫 President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a meeting with President of Burkina Faso Ibrahim Traore (May 10, 2025)
💬 President Putin: Mr President, friends,
We are delighted to see you. Before we begin, I would like to thank you once again for your decision to take part in celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
I remember our constructive and productive conversation when you first visited our country in 2023 to participate in the Russia–Africa Summit in St Petersburg. Your current visit to Russia to attend celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory is deeply symbolic and reflects the friendly nature of the Russia-Burkina Faso relations.
I would also like to mention your country’s contribution to defeating German Nazism and its satellites. About 30,000 people from modern-day Burkina Faso fought as part of the anti-Hitler Coalition, in the Free France formations led by the legendary son of the French people General Charles de Gaulle.
Today, we are united by a common goal of fighting terrorism and extremism. We will continue to help the Republic in restoring the rule of law and constitutional order and to assist in suppressing the radical groups that are still active in certain parts of Burkina Faso.
Over the past two years, we have made significant progress in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation across various areas. In late 2023, after a pause that lasted over 30 years, the Russian Embassy in Ouagadougou resumed its operations. A regular political dialogue was established.
Even though bilateral trade remains modest, it is nonetheless on the rise, which is a promising trend that should, of course, be encouraged. We will work together to further strengthen economic ties and diversify mutual trade.
The Burkina Faso Economic Days in Russia in October 2024, which were attended by a high-ranking Burkinabe delegation headed by the Prime Minister, were beneficial in this regard.
Work is under way to create an intergovernmental commission. A dedicated working group was formed in late 2024.
We will continue to help your country in training national personnel. The Russian government scholarship quota for Burkinabe citizens has been more than doubled for the 2024–2025 academic year. This year, we are prepared to take 27 more students from your country. The tuition will be covered from Russia’s federal budget. In all, about 3,500 students from Burkina Faso received their education in Russia.
Cultural and humanitarian ties have been promoted since 2024 by the Ouagadougou-based Russia House, which offers Russian language classes, among others.
Cooperation in healthcare and sanitation holds a lot of promise. On April 24–25, Ms Popova visited Ouagadougou. We are ready to carry out joint scientific research, develop laboratory infrastructure, and train specialists.
We prioritise humanitarian aid to Burkina Faso as well. Last year, we shipped to your country 25,000 tonnes of wheat free of charge. This month, a large shipment of other foods will arrive in Ouagadougou.
We appreciate close coordination with Burkina Faso in the international arena, including at the United Nations and other international organisations. Consultations between Russia and the Confederation of Sahel States have become a valuable new cooperation format. The first such meeting took place at the level of foreign ministers in Moscow in April.
I think our prospects are good across many areas. We have an opportunity to discuss some of them today.

🇷🇺🇿🇼 President of Russia Vladimir Putin met with President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa (May 10, 2025)
💬 President Putin: Mr President,
Friends,
Welcome to Moscow once again. We are grateful to you for personally representing your country at the anniversary events commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
We remember that Zimbabwe, known as Southern Rhodesia at that time, had a training base where our allies trained flight personnel for combat aviation, pilots and navigators.
Zimbabwe is our reliable partner on the African continent. Next year, we will mark 45 years of diplomatic relations between our countries. You are always a welcome guest in Russia, Mr President.
In June last year, we had substantive talks on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Contacts are maintained between our respective government agencies; interparliamentary dialogue is advancing, and parliamentary friendship groups are active in both houses of the Russian Federal Assembly.
While current Russia-Zimbabwe trade remains modest, there is significant potential for growth across a range of sectors, including geological exploration, energy, and agriculture.
Cooperation in training your country’s specialists at Russian universities has also yielded positive results. At present, 460 students from Zimbabwe are pursuing studies at Russian universities. For the academic year 2025–2026, 125 government scholarships have been allocated. In addition, over 500 people are currently enrolled in online Russian language courses offered by St Petersburg State University. We also welcome the active involvement of your universities in the Russian-African Network University initiative.
We continue to provide the necessary assistance and support to your country whenever needed. Last year, we delivered 25,000 tonnes of wheat and tens of thousands of tonnes of fertilisers. Furthermore, in December 2024, a decision was made to allocate additional funding to the UN World Food Programme, among other support initiatives.
Russia and Zimbabwe share common – or closely aligned – positions on most key issues on the international agenda. We stand together in advocating for the establishment of a just multipolar world order based on the supremacy of international law. Mr President, we value your consistent support for Russian initiatives at the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
Russia places great importance on the comprehensive strengthening of its relations with the countries of the African continent.
In November 2024, Sochi hosted the first conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum at the level of foreign ministers. We are now preparing for the second ministerial conference, scheduled for the end of this year, and we look forward to welcoming your country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs at that event.
Mr President, this visit presents an excellent opportunity to explore practical steps for advancing our bilateral cooperation. Let me once again say how pleased we are to welcome you to Russia.
You are most welcome!

⚡️ Press statement by the President of Russia
Key points:
❗️ Despite everything, we propose that the authorities in Kiev should resume the negotiations that they interrupted at the end of 2022 and resume direct talks. And, I stress, without any preconditions.
👉 We are set on serious negotiations with Ukraine. Their aim is to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and to achieve a long-term lasting peace for a historical perspective.
• We suggest starting without delay next Thursday, May 15, in Istanbul, where they were held earlier and where they were interrupted.
• Tomorrow we are going to have a conversation with the President of Turkiye, Mr Erdogan. I would like to ask him to provide such an opportunity to hold talks in Turkiye. I hope that he will confirm his desire to contribute to the search for peace in Ukraine.
• We do not rule out that in the course of these negotiations it will become possible to agree on some kind of new truce and a new ceasefire. And a real ceasefire that would be observed not only by Russia but also by the Ukrainian side.
• Our proposal is, as they say, on the table. The decision is now up to Ukrainian authorities and their supervisors, who are seemingly guided by their personal political ambitions, rather than the interests of their peoples, want to continue the war against Russia at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists.
***
• We honour all those who contributed to the common victory over Nazism, including our allies in the anti-Hitler coalition, Chinese soldiers, participants in the anti-Fascist resistance in Europe, fighters of the people's liberation movements in Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and volunteers from Latin American countries.
• Together with our friends and like-minded people, we share a common memory and respect for history, heroic deed of true heroes who fought for freedom, and of course, our responsibility for the future, for building a more just and safer world. The issues that directly affect the stable, sustainable development of the entire world community – Eurasia and other world regions – were at the center of the bilateral and the multilateral meetings held in Moscow.
• Despite threats, blackmail and obstacles caused, including the closure of airspace, the leaders of several European countries – Serbia, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina – came to Moscow. I would like to reiterate: we understand the massive pressure they faced, and therefore we sincerely appreciate their political courage, firm moral position, decision to share the holiday with us, to pay tribute to the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, World War II, who fought for their Fatherland and for deliverance from the brown plague of the whole world, of the entire mankind without any exaggeration.
• We are grateful to the leaders of the 13 states who sent units of the national armed forces to participate in the parade on Red Square. Their shoulder-to-shoulder march with our ceremonial units filled the common holiday with special energy and the spirit of military brotherhood, tempered during the Second World War.
• It is important for us that millions of Europeans, state leaders that pursue sovereign policies, remember this. This gives us optimism and hope that sooner or later, based on the lessons of history and the opinion of our peoples, we will begin to move towards restoring constructive relations with European states.
• Our comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction with the People's Republic of China can serve as a genuine example of modern equal relations in the 21st century.

🎙 Excerpt from the press statement by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin (May 11, 2025)
💬 Vladimir Putin: Russia has proposed ceasefire initiatives on several occasions, but they, these initiatives, have been repeatedly sabotaged by Ukraine.
For example, the Kiev regime defiantly violated about 130 times the 30-day – I want to make it a point – 30-day moratorium, from March 18 to April 17, on strikes against energy facilities, which was declared in accordance with our agreement with US President Donald Trump.
The Easter truce initiated by Russia was not observed either: the ceasefire regime was violated by Ukrainian forces almost 5,000 times.
Nevertheless, for the celebration of Victory Day – and we consider this to be a sacred holiday for us as well, just imagine that we lost 27 million people – we declared a ceasefire for the third time on this holiday, which is sacred to us.
Incidentally we conveyed to those of our colleagues in the West who, in my opinion, are sincerely looking for ways to settlement, our position on this issue, on a ceasefire on Victory Day, and that in the future we do not exclude the possibility of extending the terms of this truce – but, of course, after analysing what will happen in these several days, based on the results of how the Kiev regime will react to our proposal.
And what do we see? What are these results?
The Kiev authorities, as you can see for yourself, did not respond at all to our ceasefire proposal.
<...>
As I have already said, the Kiev authorities not only declined our ceasefire proposal, but also, as we all saw, tried to intimidate the leaders of the states who gathered for the celebrations in Moscow.
<...>
I will repeat: we have proposed steps towards a ceasefire on many occasions. We have never refused to engage in dialogue with the Ukrainian side. Let me remind you again: it was not us who interrupted the negotiations in 2022; it was the Ukrainian side.
❗️ In this connection, despite everything, we propose that the authorities in Kiev should resume the negotiations that they interrupted at the end of 2022 and resume direct talks. And, I stress, without any preconditions.
We suggest starting without delay next Thursday, May 15, in Istanbul, where they were held earlier and where they were interrupted. <...>

And a real ceasefire that would be observed not only by Russia but also by the Ukrainian side and would be the first step, I repeat, towards a long-term, sustainable peace, rather than a prelude to continuing armed conflict after the Ukrainian armed forces have been rearmed, re-equipped and frantically digged trenches and new strongholds. Who needs such peace?
Our proposal is, as they say, on the table. The decision is now up to Ukrainian authorities and their supervisors, who are seemingly guided by their personal political ambitions, rather than the interests of their peoples, want to continue the war against Russia at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists.
Let me reiterate myself: Russia is ready for talks without any preliminary conditions. There are combat actions and war going on now, and we propose to resume negotiations that were not interrupted by us.
Well, what's wrong about it?
Those who really want peace cannot but support this.

✉️ President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants and guests of the 16th International Economic Forum Russia – Islamic World: #KazanForum.
✍️ For centuries, our multinational country has maintained open and extensive ties with countries of the Islamic world. Today, even amid a challenging global landscape, we continue to steadily and successfully expand our economic, scientific, educational, humanitarian, and interregional cooperation. Notably, Tatarstan stands out as one of the most active regions of the Russian Federation in fostering these productive and constructive relationships.
Throughout the forum, you will explore opportunities to further strengthen our cooperation across a wide range of fields, including technological development. A key focus will be the collaborative effort to build a digital financial system, which will be addressed in a dedicated meeting of the Russia – Islamic World Strategic Vision Group, with the participation of representatives from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The forum’s business and cultural programmes will appropriately honour this significant date. Preserving the memory of the past, including the courage and unity of our ancestors in their struggle against Nazism, racism, and colonialism, remains a vital responsibility. Today, more than ever, only through collective efforts can we ensure the sustainable and harmonious development of the global community and effectively address contemporary security challenges such as terrorism, extremism, and the escalation of regional conflicts.
I am confident that the forum’s work will once again be productive and will contribute to the deepening of dialogue and partnership among our countries and peoples.

🤝 We were delighted to welcome our dear friends and colleagues from the Russian Embassy in Bern and the Consulate General in Geneva, the Russian Mission to the WTO, the Permanent Missions of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, staff of international organizations within the UN, as well as our Swiss friends and compatriots – participants of the “Immortal Regiment” held at the Place des Nations.
🎶 As always, the Mayovka was remembered for its heartfelt cultural program. Our thanks go to the students and teachers of our school, the “Second Youth” ensemble, soloist of the Grand Théâtre de Genève Dmitry Tikhonov, Belarusian singer Marina Melnikova, and our colleagues from the Armenian Mission for performing the national dance Kochari – the same dance Soviet soldiers performed on the steps of the conquered Reichstag in May 1945.
🐺 We extend special gratitude to the “Night Wolves”. These bikers helped maintain order during the “Immortal Regiment” and rode hundreds of kilometers to share this important day with us. This year, they also managed to bring to our Mission the Eternal Flame from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow – a symbol of remembrance that traveled a long way through Europe: Moscow – Minsk – Berlin – Basel – Bern – Geneva.
💬 Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Gennady Gatilov:
🥇 “On this special holiday, I would like to quote Marshal Zhukov: ‘Time holds no power over the greatness of all that we lived through during the war. And the nation that once endured great trials will continue to draw strength from this Victory.’ These words of Georgy Zhukov continue to guide us”.
