✍️ Press Bureau of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service:
Europe and the Kiev regime set to sour the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany
💬 Despite the potential damage this might create for its reputation, Europe continues to pursue a revanchist agenda regarding the 80th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany and to uphold the reckless plans of the neo-Nazi Kiev regime. That is how we interpret the German authorities’ decision to prevent the Russian and Belarusian ambassadors from attending Victory celebrations in that country.
Europe’s cynicism has been complemented by some EU leaders’ intention to accept Zelensky’s invitation to the celebrations in Kiev staged as an “alternative” to the May 9 events in Moscow. Moreover, head of European diplomacy Kallas has warned EU member states and candidate countries against going to Moscow for celebrations, even though the leaders of Slovakia and Serbia have confirmed their attendance. <...>
The Kiev regime, which claims to be carrying the “torch of freedom,” openly venerates the Ukrainian members of the Nazi Nachtigall punitive battalion and the SS Galicia Division, which were involved in criminal activities in the territory of Slovakia, Serbia and Poland. The list of European nations whose leaders have been invited to Kiev is almost identical to Hitler’s coalition of countries that fought against the Soviet Union in the German Wehrmacht and SS units. It is not surprising that commentators have described the planned get-together in Kiev as “a PR action of the Brussels scums,” “losers’ day” and “Nazi descendants’ day.”
🕯 A stark example of the crimes committed by the “Euro-Nazi machine” during the Great Patriotic War is the Siege of Leningrad, which lasted from 1941 to 1944 and claimed the lives of between 600'000 and 1.5 million civilians who starved to death. That crime has been declared in Russian courts as the genocide of Soviet people. In addition to regular German and Finnish units, the besieging forces included the Blue Division of Spanish volunteers, the Norwegian Waffen-SS Legion, the Dutch Legion Netherlands and the Latvian Legion of Waffen SS. <...>
In November 1941, the Flemish Legion of Waffen SS was deployed near Leningrad. Another Belgian unit, the 28th SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Wallonia fought near Dnepropetrovsk. The Free Corps Denmark, whose criminal history began near Velikiye Luki, was later incorporated into the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf.
The Estonian Legion, which was established in October 1942 and later reformed as the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division (1st Estonian), committed atrocities in the areas of Polotsk, Nevel, Idritsa and Sebezh. <...> Croatian volunteer units fought on Hitler’s side on the Dnieper and near Mariupol. The 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian) mercilessly executed Serbs, Jews and partisans in the Balkans. The 21st Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Skanderbeg (1st Albanian) is remembered for similar atrocities.
Romania was one of the main allies of Nazi Germany. By August 1942, there were nearly 700'000 Romanian troops on the Eastern Front. Over 200'000 of them perished in the battles of Stalingrad, Odessa, Sevastopol and Donbass. Over 94'000 soldiers of another German ally, Italy, met their end near Nikolayev, Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk, on the Don, and in Stalingrad.
The Legion of French Volunteers (LVF or the 638th Infantry Regiment), which was established by an agreement between Hitler and the collaborationist government of Philippe Petain, lost 75% of its combat personnel in the Battle of Moscow. <...>
🤷♂️ Macron’s calls for a new “crusade” against Russia seem especially hypocritical given that historical context.
These shameful facts constitute a striking backdrop for the lies and hysterics of liberal European politicians, who describe the Ukrainian conflict as an “existential battle between good and evil,” and Russia’s measures to ensure its security as preparations for attacking NATO countries.

🎙 Comment by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on politicising UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize (May 6, 2025)
💬 We resolutely condemn yet another act of media-related politicisation, incompetence and double standards on the part of UNESCO Secretariat.
The awarding of this once prestigious UNESCO/Guillermo Cano Prize in recognition of a major contribution to promoting independence of the media and freedom of expression has turned into a farce and slandering of the countries that the West finds undesirable. On May 3, the award was presented to La Prensa, a foreign-operated newspaper banned in Nicaragua for its anti-government activities. According to the chair of the international jury of media professionals, “La Prensa has faced severe repression… this newspaper courageously keeps the flame of press freedom alive.”
❗️ However, our Nicaraguan friends pointed out that this “flame” is aimed at inciting instability in the country. Outraged by the use of the award as a tool of political pressure, the Nicaraguan authorities notified the Director-General of their withdrawal from the Organisation in view of “unacceptable and inadmissible actions” against Managua.
The outrage of our Nicaraguan partners is understandable. This is not the first time the Guillermo Cano Prize is used to support anti-government media outlets that are involved in illegal activities incompatible with the media professional standards.
In 2022, the award was given to the pro-Western Belarusian Association of Journalists that had been banned by Minsk for complicity in an attempted coup. Russia’s nominee, Sputnik editor-in-chief Yelena Chemerisheva, who performed her duties under severe pressure from the Estonian authorities, was ignored, as were Russia’s earlier nominations of dignified media representatives. When the UNESCO Executive Board discussed renewing the prize for the next six years in the autumn of 2022, the Russian side distanced itself from the decision-making process.
Notably, this year’s prize will be presented at a behind-closed-doors event in Brussels, a closed club meeting with the participation of a small number of countries.
☝️ Inclusiveness and pluralism of opinion were left off the table this time again.
The Secretariat’s biased approach is clearly evident in its persistent refusal to react to widespread reprisals against Russian media outlets in Western countries and their actual annihilation in Ukraine.
This is also reflected in its silence regarding the deaths of Russian media members at the hands of the Kiev regime in the Director-General’s 2022–2023 report on the safety of journalists.
This approach contradicts the ideals of UNESCO and the principle of neutrality of international officials, as enshrined in its Charter. Director-General Audrey Azoulay denouncing the killing of Russian journalists in March, after years of silence regarding such acts of violence, is simply not enough.
👉 Russia strongly opposes the attempts to use UNESCO’s mandate for political purposes.
We express support to our friends in Nicaragua, who have been driven to taking these drastic steps by the discriminatory acts of the Secretariat that has become subservient to Western interests. We will partner up with like-minded countries to push for the Secretariat to respect its commitments to UNESCO members.

⚡️ Comment by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the continued aggravation in India-Pakistan relations
💬 We are deeply concerned about the aggravation of military confrontation between India and Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Russia firmly condemns all acts of terrorism, stands against any manifestations of terrorism, and highlights the importance of consolidating the efforts of the international community to effectively combat this menace.
❗️ We urge the parties involved to show restraint in order to prevent the further deterioration in the region.
We hope that differences between New Delhi and Islamabad will be resolved peacefully through political and diplomatic means, based on bilateral efforts and in accordance with the provisions of the Simla Agreement (1972) and the Lahore Declaration (1999).

🇷🇺🇻🇪 On May 7, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro, held talks in Moscow.
The two leaders discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Russian-Venezuelan cooperation in the political, trade and economic, financial, scientific and technological, as well as humanitarian and cultural areas. They also exchanged views on pressing matters on the international and regional agendas.
Following Russia–Venezuela talks, the Heads of State signed the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on Strategic Partnership and Cooperation.
***
💬 President Putin: Mr President, friends,
I am delighted to welcome you to Moscow. We have already met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, but I am extremely grateful to you for taking the time to come to the celebrations of Victory in the Second World War. In our country we call it the Great Patriotic War. Victory over Nazism is a special day for Russia and the Russian people.
This year not only marks the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory but also the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries. The celebrations are over, but we have not forgotten this landmark event.
I would like to point out that our relations are based on the Treaty on Strategic Partnership. It offers a solid foundation for our cooperation, and we have achieved tangible results working on this foundation.
Of course, our mutual trade, which is estimated at $200 million, falls short of our aspirations, but the trend is very positive: last year, our trade increased by 64%, which is a sign of good progress.
🤝 We have promising and well-defined areas of cooperation, and our colleagues are actively working in all of them, including energy, transportation, the pharmaceutical industry, logistics, healthcare and, of course, humanitarian initiatives.
Overall, we are satisfied with how our bilateral contacts are progressing, thanks in large part to the personal attention you devote to this relationship.
We remember our friend Hugo Chavez very well. He was a remarkable leader, not only for your country but for all of Latin America. He was without question a friend of Russia. Today, you are continuing his mission, and we wish you every success. We will have the opportunity to discuss all the areas of cooperation I just mentioned.
Welcome, Mr President!

🎙Congratulations from Ambassador of Russia to Canada Oleg Stepanov to the Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and Russian Compatriots Residing in Canada on the Occasion of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 7, 2025)
Dear Veterans,
Dear Compatriots and Friends,
🇷🇺 I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of you on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. May 9 is a sacred date for each of us. There is hardly a Russian—or Soviet—family that was not touched by the tragedy of war.
We remain forever indebted to our forebears, who gave a resolute rebuff to the treacherous Nazi invaders. We eternally honor their heroic sacrifice and their struggle that secured for us and future generations the right to live—and to live under a peaceful sky.
📩 Our children and grandchildren continue to draw inspiration from the selfless courage of the defenders of Moscow, Stalingrad, and the Kursk Salient, and from the heroes of besieged Leningrad, Kyiv, Odesa, and countless other cities and regions of our historic Motherland.
❗️We pay tribute to the Red Army soldiers who liberated Europe from occupation and helped prevent the annihilation of millions of innocent lives. We are deeply grateful to the home front workers, who devoted themselves entirely to supplying the war effort; to the women who fought and labored side by side with men, forging the sword of victory; and to the children of war, who endured hardship and loss, and worked in factories to replace the adults who had gone to the front.
🇨🇦 We also preserve the memory of the brotherhood in arms with the Allied nations, including Canada, as part of the anti-Hitler coalition. We appreciate their contribution on the battlefield and their support—especially through the perilous Arctic Convoys. We are confident that their descendants also cherish the legacy of those historic years.
🕯At the same time, we must remember that for us, Victory Day is a celebration with tears in our eyes. The price of our freedom, independence, and triumph was immense! Millions perished heroically on the battlefield. But it is equally important to recall that of the 27 million Soviet lives lost, the vast majority were civilians—men, women, and children—who were victims of the genocidal occupation policies of Nazi Germany.
📆 Victory Day remains a unifying foundation of our national consciousness.
Russia, as the heir to the valiant legacy of the Red Army, will continue to uphold truth and justice, to defend historical memory from distortion, and to promote peace and stability around the world. It is our duty to ensure that Nazism never rises again—and we shall fulfill that duty, if need be, with sword in hand.
🇷🇺 We bow low before all defenders of the Fatherland!
🔴 🔴 Happy Victory Day! To our Victory!

🎥 Eternal Heroes — an RT Doc Film.
Synopsis: The documentary pays tribute to those who defended the USSR against fascist invaders during World War II.
The film tells the stories of some of the last surviving veterans of the Great Patriotic War, ordinary Soviet citizens, who became heroes in the fight against Nazism.
Among them:
🏅 103-year-old Valentina Minaeva, a surgical nurse who served in three wars and saved hundreds of lives;
🏅 100-year-old Vitaly Kolesov, an artillery commander who survived the horrors of the war, including the Battle of Stalingrad;
🏅 98-year-old Nikolay Teplotanskikh, a volunteer tank driver who repeatedly rescued wounded comrades and miraculously survived himself.
With each passing year, the number of veterans diminishes, with many now over 100 years old. Yet, their memories of wartime trials remain vivid.
Witness the poignant recollections of those who lived through the horrors of war.

🎙 Statement by the Delegation of the Russian Federation at the Third Session of the Preparatory Committee for the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (Cluster III: Peaceful uses of nuclear energy; New York, 6 May 2025)
Key talking points:
💬 Russia has consistently stood for the #NPT States parties’ broad access to the benefits of peaceful uses of nuclear energy and the development of international cooperation in this area. Our country is among the leaders of the world nuclear energy market.
• Russia has made considerable progress in the development of small modular reactors. In addition to the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear thermal power plant, we are building a fleet of four upgraded 106 MW floating power units each having a RITM-200S reactor.
• Russia has been actively exploring and developing the Northern Sea Route, a promising transportation artery linking Europe, Russia and the Asia-Pacific region. It has been 67 years since the first nuclear-powered icebreaker Lenin was launched. Over these years, we have put in operation eleven more nuclear-powered icebreakers and a nuclear-powered LASH Carrier “Sevmorput”. We continue building and operating new-generation nuclear-powered icebreakers and remain the only country in the world possessing a fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers.
• Russia continues to promote the development of nuclear energy. To date, 110 Russian-designed NPP units have been built worldwide. We are currently building 22 power units in seven countries (Bangladesh, Hungary, Egypt, India, Iran, China and Türkiye).
• Russia's priorities include scientific research into and development of radiation technologies and peaceful uses of nuclear energy in medicine, agriculture, industry and other key economic sectors.
• All NPT-compliant countries should have unrestricted access to peaceful atom. Each State party to the Treaty has a right to freely pursue an independent national nuclear energy policy and to engage in cooperation in this area without any discrimination.
