The International Russophile Movement once again brings together people from different parts of the world. The fact that these events are held in South Africa is especially important. Being Russia’s strategic partner, longtime friend and a close ally in #BRICS, South Africa is one of the leaders of the African continent,’ Roman Ambarov noted.

🎙 Statement by Konstantin Vorontsov, Head of the Delegation of the Russian Federation, Deputy Director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation at the Meeting of the High Contracting Parties to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons under Agenda Item 7 "General Exchange of Views" (Geneva, November 14, 2024)
💬 The Russian Federation reaffirms its commitment to the obligations under the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) and advocates the full implementation of all its provisions.
The CCW regime has shown in practice its real ability to respond to humanitarian threats, as well as its high adaptivity to changing conditions of warfare.
☝️ The strengthening of CCW and its five Protocols is directly dependent on its universalization. We urge the States that have not done it so far to also accede to the CCW as well as to its Protocols.
We emphasize the firm observance by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation of Amended Protocol II, which establishes an effective mechanism against the improper use of landmines, which are for many States a legitimate and necessary means of ensuring national security.
We confirm our reserved attitude to the possible resumption of independent expert work on Mines Other Than Anti-Personnel Mines (MOTAPM) within the CCW. Such mines are a legitimate means of defense and any attempts to qualify their use as “special humanitarian threat” have nothing to do with reality.
🤝 We confirm our willingness to further discuss the issue of lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS) within the optimal platform for that – CCW Group of Governmental Experts (GGE), basing on discussion mandate and the principle of consensus.
We welcome the adoption at the Sixth Review Conference of financial rules designed to ensure the long-term and sustainable functioning of the Convention.
The Russian Federation confirms its commitment to a constructive, results-oriented dialogue with all interested parties.

⚡️Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s upcoming participation in the G20 Summit
On November 18-19, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will host the #G20 Leaders’ Summit. The Russian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the instruction of the head of state. A majority of the G20 member states’ leaders are expected to take part.
Brasilia regards the G20 as a core element of the polycentric system of international economic relations, distinguished by an effective decision-making mechanism due to its optimal number of members as well as the principle of consensus. The theme of Brazil’s first ever presidency of the forum is “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.”
At the summit, the partners expect to reach consensus agreements, with the process viewed through the prism of the country’s international prestige. A leadership declaration (a non-signature document approved in the absence of objections from the parties) is expected to be the summit’s major practical outcome. <...>
Russia has been actively engaged in developing and coordinating the organisational and substantive aspects of the Brazilian project, having already added advanced domestic solutions on food security and poverty eradication into the database.
The summit in Rio de Janeiro will open with the launch ceremony of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. Russia’s planned official connection to this platform will give it another opportunity to raise issues relevant to the global majority at the international level, in particular, counteracting illegal unilateral sanctions and promoting domestic experience. <...>
Russia plays a prominent role in the G20, efficiently influencing the course and direction of negotiations, as well as the content of agreements. Moscow views the platform as an essential forum for global economic governance.
The G20 is extensively used to promote Russia’s ideas on the importance of building an open and non-discriminatory global economy, and abandoning unilateral restrictive measures, trade wars and protectionism. Efforts are taken to draw attention to the long-overdue reform of the global governance architecture to benefit emerging markets, with the focus on ending the dominance of Western powers in international financial, economic and trade institutions, de-dollarisation, and increasing the share of settlements in national currencies.
<...>
Russia has consistently advocated the essential need to depoliticise the G20, which should focus on its direct responsibilities to encourage economic growth and sustainable development. The opponents’ attempts to bring peace and security issues beyond the group’s authority to the G20 agenda are counterproductive; this destructive policy hinders progress in core areas and causes increased division between the members.
❗️Russia views its priority in the G20 as achieving constructive agreements in the forum that consider all member nations’ interests based on consensus.
Moscow seeks a proper and balanced understanding of sustainable development goals with due account of the states’ national interests, takes efforts to effectively use the G20 to promote the democratisation of international financial and economic structures, particularly, the #IMF, #WorldBank and #WTO, and makes steps to diversify mutual settlement mechanisms and build independent trans-border supply chains.

⚡️ Comment by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the murder of Narodnaya Gazeta Editor-in-Chief Yulia Kuznetsova (November 18, 2024)
▪️On November 17, Narodnaya Gazeta Editor-in-Chief Yulia Kuznetsova died in the line of duty in the village of Bolshoye Soldatskoye, the Kursk Region, as a result of a targeted UAV attack launched by armed militants of the Kiev regime.
Ukrainian Nazis dropped drone-carried munitions on a vehicle loaded with the newspaper’s archives. The ensuing blast also injured an e-typesetting operator of the newspaper and an accompanying police officer.
We express our sincere condolences to Ms Kuznetsova’s family and friends. She died while performing her professional duty. We wish her wounded colleagues a rapid recovery and convalescence.
❗️ This cold-blooded murder is yet another example of the ugly and pathologically criminal nature of the Zelensky regime, which is ready to use bloody terrorist methods against civilians, civil services, and media personnel. Moreover, the Ukrainian Nazis have launched a real hunt for journalists covering frontline events. This year alone, they delivered targeted strikes that killed war correspondents Semyon Yeryomin, Valery Kozhin, and Nikita Tsitsagi, and heavily wounded Alexei Ivliyev and Yevgeny Poddubny.
🤐 This series of cruel murders and attempts on the lives of Russian journalists is a direct consequence of the connivance tactics adopted by the Western patrons of the Nazi clique in Kiev and the deliberate hushing-up of these crimes by the relevant international organisations and human rights groups.
Yet another eloquent example of this politically biased and profoundly immoral approach is the recently published draft report for 2022-2023 on media security and the impunity problem by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, a report that ignores the official Russian data on journalist deaths during that period. <...>
Likewise, this hall of shame includes cynical statements by representatives of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). They claim that the lack of response to numerous crimes against Russian journalists from the High Commissioner and various special procedures under the UN Human Rights Council is due to Russia failing to provide access for them to confirm this data. <...>
☝️ Currently, Russia’s competent authorities are carrying out an investigation to identify and bring to account, as prescribed by law, all Ukrainian militants implicated in Yulia Kuznetsova’s murder, which is classified as a terrorist attack.
We emphasise once again: all those guilty of murdering the Russian journalist will face well-deserved and unavoidable punishment.

❗️ Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia Vladimir Solovyov and the Head of the Moscow Branch of the Union of Journalists of Moscow Pavel Gusev sent a letter to the Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay in connection with the situation around her 2022-2023 draft report “Safety of Journalists and the Danger of Impunity” (November 18, 2024)
✍️ The Russian Union of Journalists expresses its deep indignation regarding the situation surrounding your report on "Safety of Journalists and the Danger of Impunity".
We are dismayed to note that the report lacks information about Russian journalists who were killed on duty over the past two years.
This fact raises serious questions about the objectivity and impartiality of the report's authors, especially in light of numerous accounts of attacks, threats, and the deaths of Russian journalists and media employees. Such situation gives the impression that UNESCO is deviating from its mission as an international organization dedicated to protect freedom of expression and the rights of all journalists, and de facto acting in accordance with the politicized agendas of certain anti-Russian states and blocs.
☝️ Disregarding the fates of Russian journalists, as well as ignoring crimes committed against them, not only undermines trust in the organization, but also contradicts its fundamental principles.
Russian Union of Journalists insists on a revision of the report's content to include objective data regarding our fallen colleagues, as well as information about Russian journalists who have faced violence, threats, and repression in a number of so-called "democratic" EU countries. Ignoring these facts is unacceptable and damages UNESCO's reputation as an independent and neutral arbiter on the protection of journalism and freedom of speech.
We hope for your attention to this matter, because respect for the profession of a journalist and his work should remain a fundamental principle of UNESCO's work.

❗️ Maxim Grigoryev, the Сhairman of the International Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian neo-Nazis, which comprises representatives of civil society from more than 30 countries, continues recording reports of atrocities perpetrated by the Kiev regime, long before Russia launched the special military operation.
💬 Svetlana Sinitsyna on her son’s murder by a Ukrainian neo-Nazi:
"On August 27, 2016, a fighter of the Aidar nationalist battalion (banned in Russia as a terrorist organization) brutally murdered my son who stood up for local girls harassed by the drunk Ukrainian soldiers. Despite the clear evidence, the killer has not yet been convicted".
💬 Vitaly Bondar' on shelling Ugledar by the Ukrainian troops:
"The Ukrainian military drove around the city in pickups and fired munitions in order to spread panic among residents and make us flee. Thus they tried to make it appear as if people ran from Russians. After the Ukrainian soldiers came in they immediately started looting, brutally and without limits. They literally took out everything they could".
💬 Natalia Novak on hiding her children during the Ukrainian raids:
"To avoid recruitment of my children into the Ukrainian army, we had to hide them in ventilation tube. Sometimes they laid down there for several hours, while the gunmen walked around the apartment and checked every spot. We were really horrified... Regardless of the weather we stood outside like nightwatch, and hid our men if a Ukrainian soldier was seen".

🎙 Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s response to a media question about alleged permission to Kiev to launch missile strikes deep into Russia
❓ Question: Western media are spreading reports that Joe Biden has allegedly given Kiev permission to launch strikes deep into Russian territory with American ATACMS missiles, and France and Great Britain to launch their SCALP and STORM SHADOW missiles. How could you comment on this?
💬 Maria Zakharova: It is yet unclear if these reports are based on official sources. One thing is clear: considering the Kiev regime’s defeats, its Western curators are betting on the maximum escalation of the hybrid war unleashed against Russia, trying to achieve an illusory goal: to inflict a strategic defeat on Moscow.
However, no wonder weapon that Zelensky and his henchmen pray to get is capable to affect the course of the special military operation.
President Vladimir Putin clearly stated on October 25 what “permitting” to use of NATO high-precision long-range weapons actually means. He stressed that Ukraine cannot execute such strikes on its own without using space satellites and flight assignments provided by NATO military personnel.
Kiev’s use of long-range missiles to attack our territory would mean a direct involvement of the United States and its satellites in military operations against Russia, as well as a radical change in the essence and nature of the conflict.
❗️ Russia’s response would then be adequate and significant.

📢We draw the attention of #UNESCO Director-General A.Azoulay to another crime of Kiev regime against Russian journalists.
On 1️⃣7️⃣November, as a result of a Ukrainian drone strike in the Bolshesoldatsky district of the Kursk region, the editor-in-chief of the "Narodnaya Gazeta", Ms Yulia Kuznetsova, was killed and her colleague, a journalist, was wounded.
☝️We recall that in accordance with the decisions of the UNESCO Executive Board and General Conference, the Director-General is tasked to condemn killing of journalists "without distinction".
👉🏻A.Azoulay does not fulfill the mandate. The Director-General has not condemned the killings of Russian journalists in 2022-2024. According to her draft Report on the Safety of Journalists, not a single media representative was killed in Russia in 2022-2023. This is a blatant manifestation of bias and "double standards" incompatible with the duties of an international official!
📢We urge UNESCO Director-General to provide clarifications at the upcoming meeting of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (November 21-22, 2024).

4. We recognize that inequality within and among countries is at the root of most global challenges that we face and is aggravated by them. <...>
8. While expressing our deep concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the escalation in Lebanon, we emphasize the urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian assistance and to reinforce the protection of civilians and demand the lifting of all barriers to the provision of humanitarian assistance at scale. <...>
9. <...> We welcome all relevant and constructive initiatives that support a comprehensive, just, and durable peace [regarding Ukraine], upholding all the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter for the promotion of peaceful, friendly, and good neighborly relations among nations. <...>
11. We condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. <...>
15. The world produces more than enough food to eradicate hunger. Collectively, we do not lack knowledge nor resources to fight poverty and defeat hunger. What we need is political will to create the conditions to expand access to food. In light of this, we have launched the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty and welcome its innovative approach to mobilizing finance and knowledge sharing to support the implementation of country-led, country-owned, large-scale and evidence-based programs aiming at reducing hunger and poverty worldwide. <...>
35. We emphasize the role of sustainable development in its three dimensions – economic, social, and environmental – as a guiding principle for cooperation for people, planet and prosperity, with the ultimate goal of overcoming our collective challenges. We reaffirm our respective commitments to scale up urgent action to address the crises and challenges posed by climate change, biodiversity loss, desertification, ocean and land degradation, drought and pollution. <...>
62. The challenges the global community faces today can only be addressed through multilateral solutions for a better tomorrow and the strengthening of global governance for both present and future generations. <...>
64. We pledge to reform the Security Council through a transformative reform that aligns it with the realities and demands of the 21st century, makes it more representative, inclusive, efficient, effective, democratic and accountable, and more transparent to the whole of the UN membership, allowing for better responsibility sharing among all its members, while improving the effectiveness and transparency of its working methods. We call for an enlarged Security Council composition that improves the representation of the underrepresented and unrepresented regions and groups, such as Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean. <...>
