💬 Ambassador Andrei Kelin: There are two things that must be done. One is that Ukraine should remain a neutral and non-nuclear country in accordance with its Constitution.

And the second thing, which is not talked about very much, is that human rights should be fully restored in Ukraine. I mean the human rights of other nations: Russians, Hungarians, Romanians, all those who live there. All these laws that discriminate against them should be abolished. <...>

We are in favour of the speediest negotiated political solution in Ukraine. But we do not see any reciprocity. No one — neither the Ukrainian president, nor his government, nor any of the NATO leaders — is talking about negotiations. <...>

What do you want? That we will end it unilaterally? No, that is not going to happen.

☝️ We want to settle this conflict forever and on normal terms. The terms that will provide Europe, Russia and Ukraine with normal security guarantees.

📰 Article by Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Russian Federation in Jamaica Mr. Oleg Zhegl 'Holy Simplicity' behind the Grand Chessboard in Sunday Gleaner (October 20, 2024)

📖 Read in full

Key points:

• The high hopes for continued international cooperation among the Allies emerged after the end of the World War II quickly dispelled following the declaration of the Soviet Union as the primary threat to "Western civilisation" and the subsequent establishment of NATO in 1949 to counter the socialist bloc;

• The expansion of the Alliance continues to this day—long after the end of the "Cold War"—despite assurances on non-expansion of NATO into Eastern Europe given to Moscow by Western leaders;

• In the early 1990s, during a wave of democratic change, there was a renewed hope of overcoming the former split between the "political" West and the East. However, as history has shown, the West had no intention of abandoning Cold War logic;

• Despite Western assurances that NATO's expansion is not aimed at Russia, it has effectively become an existential threat to our country, as the flight time of NATO missiles has decreased to critical levels;

• Ukraine's search for national identity has led to a rise of aggressive nationalism and the subsequent full-scale implementation of an "anti-Russia" project. It resulted in systematic persecutions at the state level against the Russian language, Russian culture, and Russian Orthodoxy;

• In 2014, following an anti-constitutional coup that brought aggressive nationalists to power in Ukraine, a civil war against the Russian-speaking population in the then southeastern Ukraine was unleashed;

After eight years of futile attempts by Russia to mediate a peaceful resolution to the conflict in southeastern Ukraine and to counter NATO's military exploitation of the country, a special military operation was announced, aimed at the demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine.

• All measures aimed at 'tearing Ukraine away' from Russia have become a direct implementation of the geostrategic concept outlined in Zbigniew Brzezinski's "The Grand Chessboard" (1997). Within this logic of containing Russia the current system of international relations continues to degrade.

• Experts nurtured on Western political narratives continue to recycle relic accusations against Moscow, adding fuel to the fire of unbridled propaganda;

• O sancta simplicitas! (Oh, holy simplicity!) — this is how the Czech thinker and religious reformer Jan Hus addressed a humble old woman who added firewood to the pyre to which he was condemned for daring to disagree with the prevailing dogma. This is the type of political dogma that the myth of the "Russian threat" has become, replacing the hoax of the "communist threat".

• The success of any negotiations regarding Ukraine, as well as the stability of the future international system, will largely depend on the West's recognition of the futility of attempts to inflict a "strategic defeat" on Russia, as well as the need to overcome neocolonial remnants persisting in international politics.

• The time has come to develop principles for a new ‘peaceful coexistence’, to build a new, more just world order, where the ‘global majority’ – non-Western actors – will take their rightful place in the new global system of coordinates.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on the first round of presidential elections and the constitutional referendum in Moldova

Read in full

On October 20, Moldova held the first round of its presidential elections alongside a constitutional referendum regarding the Republic's integration into the European Union.
The election campaign was executed by the Moldovan authorities employing anti-democratic, totalitarian methods. Unable to compete equitably with political opponents, the Moldovan leadership extensively utilised administrative resources and enacted repressive measures against opposition politicians and independent media.

This policy was vindicated by the alleged necessity to counter the non-existent "destructive influence of Russia." Our country was baselessly accused of interfering in Moldova's internal affairs and attempting to sway the will of the Republic's citizens.

❗️The culmination of the extensive anti-Russian campaign initiated by Chisinau was the decision to open, under a pretext, only two polling stations in Russia, where, according to various estimates, between 300,000 and 500,000 Moldovan citizens reside. In contrast, approximately two hundred polling stations were established in the United States and Western Europe.

This occurred amidst blatant interference from the West in Moldova's electoral process. Politicians from EU member states, during their frequent visits to Chisinau, openly campaigned in favour of the current Moldovan leadership and its so-called European project.
International monitoring bodies and observers have yet to evaluate the voting outcomes. Concurrently, media reports have already highlighted numerous violations and falsifications by the authorities, including organised "bussing in" voters to polling stations in Western European countries. <...>

Based on the current vote count, it can be concluded that the results are disappointing for the Moldovan leadership and their Western sponsors. The country's integration project into the European Union, as promoted by them, did not receive unequivocal support. The majority of citizens residing in the Republic itself effectively rejected it. A narrow margin was achieved through the maximum mobilisation of voters residing in Western Europe and North America and the unprecedented restriction of voting opportunities in Russia. The same applies to the distribution of votes received by the incumbent head of state.

📉 The voting dynamics in the referendum are also noteworthy. Upon processing 42.5 percent of the ballots, only 44.07 percent of voters supported the idea of joining the EU, while 55.93 percent opposed it. When 71.25 percent of the ballots were processed, the gap persisted: 44.68 percent in favour and 55.32 percent against. Subsequently, and inexplicably for many Moldovans, the gap began to narrow, and after processing 99 percent of the ballots, the result was 50.3 percent in favour and 49.7 percent against.

It is also essential to consider that many Moldovan citizens chose not to participate in the referendum, thereby refusing to endorse the discredited project of "European Moldova."

The Moldovan populace perceives the underlying realities behind the facade of Moldova's proposed membership in the European Union and comprehends the true intentions of the West concerning their nation. The ultimate objective appears to be transforming the Republic into a Russophobic NATO appendage, stripped of its sovereignty, eradicating the national identity of Moldovans, including their language, culture, and history, imposing neoliberal values alien to Moldovan society, and severing ties with Russia entirely. The people of Moldova have expressed their rejection of this path.

‼️ From our side, we have consistently respected the choices made by the Moldovan people and advocated for the preservation and enhancement of ties with the friendly citizens of Moldova.
