🗓 On November 24, 1944, the Baltic Strategic Offensive concluded. It resulted in the rout of Germans in the Baltic countries and the liberation of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania from the Nazis.

Through their grip on the Baltics, the Nazis controlled shipments in the Baltic Sea, protected East Prussia and used the territories of the Baltic states as one of their main supply depots.

🕯 The Nazis destroyed over 500,000 civilians and 600,000 POWs in punitive operations and executions during the occupation of the Baltic republics. Baltic collaborationists took direct part in the Nazi policy of exterminating the Jews. In Latvia alone, 95 percent of Jews – about 70,000 Latvian Jews and approximately 20,000 Jews brought to Latvia from other countries, were killed in 1941-1944.

🌟 Despite the German command’s plan to contain Soviet troops for more than six months, the Soviet soldiers completed its large-scale offensive in 71 days. The success of the Red Army allowed it not only to free considerable territories of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, but also to create prerequisites for ousting Nazi invaders from East Prussia.

Apart from Soviet troops, the 16th Lithuanian rifle division, the 8th Estonian rifle corps and the 130th Latvian rifle corps played an active role in liberating their homelands.

💬 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (from the weekly briefing on November 17, 2021):
It is regrettable that attempts are being made to obliterate the memory of heroism of the Soviet Army, which fought side by side with Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians to liberate the Baltic states from Nazism, and that monuments to the liberators are being dismantled and demolished because they allegedly constitute elements of communist propaganda.

🎖 During the Baltic Offensive, 112 Soviet officers and soldiers were awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union, and three servicemen received second Gold Star medals. Orders and medals were conferred on over 332,000 military.

In a spectacular U-turn the inimitable Owen Matthews, who last year gloated that "sanctions are working", has by now deduced the obvious - that they have "utterly failed".

His conclusions that the #West has shot itself in the foot, helping #Russia to "de-offshore" & boost its economy while inflicting collective punishment against Russian communities across Europe, seem to have been lifted straight from Russian Embassy's Twitter account.

Thanks, Owen. But this doesn't mean you are coming off our "stop-list" any time soon.

🎙Read excerpts from the statement of Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the OSCE M.Buyakevich
«On the report by the OSCE Representative on the Freedom of the Media»
(meeting of the OSCE PC, 23.11.23)

💬 Summarising the results of Teresa Ribeiro activities as Representative on Freedom of the Media, we are forced to admit that she has failed to live up to expectations placed on her. The office of such an important and uniquely functional structure is in the deepest crisis

🔻Mrs.Teresa Ribeiro failed to ignore the pressure exerted on her by some Western countries, to carry out her functions transparently, equidistantly and without “double standards”, as required by the mandate

🔻Representative's choice of information sources by assessing the media situation in participating States continues to raise many questions. None of our concerns, submitted to the office in writing recently, have been taken into account

That's exactly how they did it with Russia

Today, the entire world witnessed how members of the British Labour party mocked Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for "misusing a hammer."

They released a video showing Prime Minister Sunak using a hammer on its side. The video captions read: "Not the son of a toolmaker. Man who hammers working people can't work a hammer."

However, if one watches the full clip from ITV, a British television network, it becomes clear that the video was taken during the politician's visit to a jewelry workshop in Yorkshire, in the north of England. In the complete version of the video, it is evident and audible that Sunak was specifically instructed to use the hammer sideways. The Labour party only released a portion of the video, omitting the part with the instructions.

Today, when this manipulative post was shared, Rishi Sunak became Russhi Sunak, as in Russia 👉 This is exactly what the West has been doing with Russia, by selectively using video clips, audios and quotes without context or by focusing only on specific actions, twisting their original meaning.

Subsequent refutations based on facts are either ignored or deliberately hushed up.

This is information manipulation, spreading fake news that is detrimental to the world. In the case of the British Prime Minister, the dissemination of misinformation was targeted and could be halted. But the anti-Russia media campaign has become a real (info)pandemic.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 Comment by the Russian Embassy in the United States

We have noticed the statements made by representatives of the Administration regarding so-called "Holodomor". Once again, the United States is promoting the false thesis that the Soviet leadership allegedly deliberately and purposefully “starved” millions of Ukrainians. Such interpretation of the events of the 1930s fundamentally distorts history.

❗️A large-scale crop failure and food shortages 90 years ago became a real humanitarian catastrophe for the Soviet Union. The devastating consequences of this phenomenon are a common tragedy for Russians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs and many other ethnic groups of the huge country.

☝️ The Administration's attempts to tie the events of the first half of the twentieth century with a special military operation look even more preposterous. We see this as nothing more than a new attempt to demonize Russia. Assign completely alien intentions to supposedly suppress and even destroy the fraternal people of a neighboring state.

👉 The well-worn accusations against the Russian Federation of its readiness to destroy Ukrainian agriculture and undermine global food security for its own benefit have nothing to do with the truth. The situation is just the opposite - giant corporations from the United States and Europe continue to buy grain on the cheap and export it from the territory of the republic, earning fabulous profits in the markets of developed countries. The truly needy countries receive only crumbs (about 3%). Our attempts to help by sending free agricultural raw materials face economic and legal obstacles.

📌 We call on the U.S. officials to finally recognize the key role that the West played in fomenting the Ukrainian crisis. Stop trying to draw attention to the bankrupt Kiev regime once again. Moreover the real goal of today’s statements is to humbug more billions from taxpayers, which will then be spent on the construction of defense factories, only unwinding the spiral of the conflict.

#Opinion by Maria Zakharova

💬 Europol has published a press release on disrupting a prolific phishing gang.

You might think this is about Russian hackers. But no, those are Ukrainian phone scammers posing as bank security officers. These criminals have been carrying out fraudulent activities against their “patrons” mirroring the tactics they had employed against Russia over the past five to seven years.

The Ukrainian fraudsters had their mobile phones, SIM cards and computer equipment confiscated. Their schemes targeted mostly Czech citizens, with damage estimated at tens of millions of dollars. The raids in Dnepropetrovsk (this is the actual name of the city given in the press release) involved anti-drug police units, indicating a drug element of the cybercrimes.

👆We have previously mentioned this as well. There is also relevant information provided by the Ukrainians on the case.

This illustrates a worrying aspect of where EU taxpayers’ money is directed – towards supporting various criminal activities in Ukraine, with EU regimes channelling billions of euros to Zelensky.
David #Arakhamia, leader of the ruling “Servant of the People” party faction, who led the Ukrainian delegation at peace talks in Belarus and Türkiye, has publicly confirmed what 🇷🇺President Vladimir #Putin spoke about.

In the Spring of 2022 Russian and Ukrainian delegations were on the verge of negotiating an end to the conflict, assuring Ukraine’s military non-alignment and protection of rights of Russian speakers.

A text was on the table in Istanbul, almost ready to be signed.

However, according to Arakhamia, during his visit to #Kiev 🇬🇧Prime Minister Boris Johnson pressured the Ukrainian side “not to sign anything” and “just keep on fighting”.

☝️Thus, evidently, with substantial #UK input, an off-ramp for a negotiated solution was missed - with tragic consequences for Ukrainian statehood, economy and population.

Would the UK Government care to comment on Arakhamia’s assertions?

✈️ In late November 1942, the USSR and France signed an agreement on forming the legendary Normandie-Niemen air squadron. It became a symbol of Soviet-French camaraderie and the most famous foreign military unit fighting on Soviet territory during WWII.

• By the time the squadron was formed, two thirds of France had been occupied. However, small Resistance groups wanted to continue fighting Hitler. In March 1942 they suggested sending a group of French pilots and air mechanics to the USSR to participate in combat activities.

• The Normandie-Niemen air squadron was made up of the best pilots of the 1st Fighter Group in the Free French Air Force, deployed in Lebanon at the time. The formation was initially called Normandie in honour of the French northwestern province occupied by the Germans. The squadron added Niemen to its name after a successful operation on the Nieman river during the liberation of Lithuania.

• It included 14 French pilots, 58 French mechanics and 17 Soviet mechanics. The Soviet government provided the squadron with Yakovlev-1 (Yak-1) and later Yak-3 and Yak-9 fighter planes which were subsequently donated to France.

• The French aces were part of the Soviet Air Force in 1943-1945, and fought in many landmark battles from the Kursk Bulge to Koenigsberg. In total, the squadron’s pilots made over 5,000 sorties and shot down 273 German planes. Four of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

• Upon returning home, the formation continued to exist bearing its former name. Unfortunately, today the fighters of the Normandie-Niemen air regiment are cynically used on NATO's eastern flank in the Baltic States, where they are practising tasks to "contain" Russia. In our country, however, we remember the heroism of the French aces and appreciate their contribution to our common victory.

⚡️ Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova:

💬 I have just confirmed to the media the long-awaited news.

Russian diplomats’ efforts in contacting Hamas regarding the release of hostages are yielding results.

❗️ A Russian national has been released and transferred to the Red Cross today.

Our diplomats will attend to him in the nearest future, as soon as possible. The released hostage was not on the exchange list. It is a result of direct agreements between the Russian representatives and Hamas.

This work will continue.
🎙 President Vladimir Putin took part in the plenary session of the Artificial Intelligence Journey (AI Journey) 2023 international conference on AI and machine learning titled The Generative AI Revolution: New Opportunities.

💬 In the past few years Russia’s economic and social sectors have increased the use of AI solutions by 50 percent.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund is actively involving co-investors, putting its own money into domestic software companies, and helping them develop global cooperation and enter foreign markets, and today especially in Asia and the Middle East.

<...>

☝️ We will continue to strive for Russia to become one of the world’s most conducive jurisdictions for the development of artificial intelligence and bold exploration of the technological solutions that everyone needs.

Alongside legislative measures, voluntary consent of market participants regarding key rules of creating breakthrough technologies is of immense importance.

👉 I would like to highlight the special role of the National Code of Ethics in the sphere of artificial intelligence. It has been signed by domestic companies and organisations, as well as by participants from 16 countries worldwide. I believe complementing this document with a declaration on the responsible development of large language and generative models would be the right thing to do.

Russia’s experience can be instrumental in shaping international ethical standards in the field of artificial intelligence. We should strive for balanced and justified legal regulation that serves the interests of all, rather than select countries. I propose thoroughly discussing these issues during Russia's chairmanship in BRICS next year.

I suggest considering granting our partners from friendly countries access to Russian large language and generative models.

🌐 I am absolutely convinced that the technological world of the future must be multipolar, and we must build it together on the basis of trust and mutually beneficial cooperation.

#Ukraine

The Euromaidan, alongside other factors, resulted in the division of society, a surge in nationalism, social upheavals, and the substitution of a state based on solid foundations for legal nihilism, causing profound disruption in Ukraine. These developments led to the persecution of the Russian language and history, deterioration of the socioeconomic situation, the emergence of a repressive dictatorship, and civil war.

#Sanctions

Anti-Russia sanctions have created even greater risks for global food security. However, in response to our calls, the EU continues to tighten the sanctions. The ban on transit of EU agricultural output for third countries through Russia directly affects the agro-industrial sector of other states.
