That will represent a major increase in Japan's foreign population.

There will also be hundreds of thousands of foreigners coming to Japan as students and staying in the country to work after they graduate.

Takaichi's election victory today may cause some impression-hungry foreign accounts to make declarations about Japan reducing immigration.
