The School of Social Sciences (SOSS) Research Scholarsโ€™ Seminar commenced on 16 March 2026 with a formal inaugural session attended by distinguished faculty members, invited dignitaries, and research scholars. The seminar has been conceived as an important academic platform to enable emerging researchers to present their work, engage in critical discussions, and foster interdisciplinary discussion.

The inaugural session was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Arup Mitra, South Asian University, New Delhi, who delivered an insightful and thought-provoking address on the contemporary challenges of urban development. Drawing on his extensive research and experience, he highlighted the structural complexities of urbanization, the socio-economic dimensions of urban growth, and the urgent need for informed policy interventions to address emerging urban issues.

Prof. Nita Mathur, Director, School of Social Sciences, presented a comprehensive overview of the seminar and articulated its core objectives. She emphasized the importance of rigorous academic engagement and encouraged research scholars to actively contribute to scholarly work, collaborative learning, and meaningful academic discussion.

Prof. Kaustuva Barik formally introduced the Chief Guest and subsequently delivered the vote of thanks, expressing sincere appreciation to the distinguished speakers, faculty members, and participants for their presence and contributions.

Prof. Jitendra Kumar Srivastava, Registrar, IGNOU, also interacted with the research scholars during the session. In his remarks, he shared valuable perspectives on academic research and encouraged scholars to actively participate in research initiatives and broader academic activities.

During the inaugural session, the third issue of Manas, a e-Magazine from the Discipline of Psychology, was formally released.

The session concluded with the presidential remarks of Prof. Annu J. Thomas, Vice-Chancellor I/C, IGNOU, who appreciated the initiative undertaken by the School of Social Sciences. She underscored the importance of such academic platforms in nurturing research culture and encouraged scholars to participate actively in scholarly discourse and knowledge creation.

The inaugural session set a constructive and intellectually engaging tone for the seminar, paving the way for the research presentations and academic discussions scheduled for the subsequent sessions.
