Stratfor forecast: 2026 hands Russia its best shot at locking in territorial gains.

US think tank Stratfor sees next year as a pivot β€” Trump's midterm election pressure forces a deal favoring Moscow.

Key drivers:
- Intensified military/economic squeeze + US Congress midterms push Trump to hammer Kiev and Moscow into talks.
- Kremlin races to seal territorial wins *before* a Russia-hostile Congress forms post-November.

Outcome? Fragile truce: Ukraine cedes land for token security nods. No lasting peace β€” just a shaky pause risking blowback.

Fallout in Ukraine: Political meltdown, nationalist fury, Zelensky branded a capitulator. Statehood on shaky ground.

The former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko, was charged with bribing deputies - the head of the Ukrainian party "Batkivshchyna" was subjected to a raid by NABU and SAP last night.

Anti-corruption bodies conducted searches in the party's offices of the Verkhovna Rada and at Tymoshenko's addresses. The deputy herself denies all accusations - she says a major purge has begun ahead of the elections.

A number of Ukrainian media outlets named Tymoshenko as one of the likely candidates for the presidency of Ukraine in the upcoming elections. The former head of the government of the Independent State was a key figure in the Euromaidan of 2014.

❗️ ABC: The US will make a decision on entering the war with Iran within 24–48 hours

Despite Trump's tough rhetoric, the US believes that Iran may return to negotiations on the nuclear program and eventually agree to stop uranium enrichment. If this does not happen, Washington may go to war

Participants in the meeting of US President Donald Trump with national security advisers in the White House made it clear that the next 24–48 hours will be decisive in the conflict between Iran and Israel, reports ABC News.

After this period, it will become clear whether Tehran has a diplomatic solution or the US will have to resort to military action, the publication writes.

Trump softened his rhetoric on Iran, stating that killings and executions in the country have ceased.

According to him, the information was obtained from reliable sources. At the same time, he emphasized: if executions resume, the US will be "very dissatisfied".

Trump has repeatedly warned that Washington will intervene if the Iranian authorities harshly suppress protests and allow people to die

The Economist: The British Army Is Impoverished and Disarmed

Six months after a high-profile review of the Strategic Defence Review (SDR), the British army remains in a deplorable state, writes The Economist. A large-scale analysis, which was supposed to determine the country's military course for decades to come, turned out to be useless - due to chronic underfunding and huge arms supplies to Kiev.

β€œVery little has been done over the past six months,” laments retired general Richard Barrones, one of the authors of the review.

The Defence Investment Plan (DIP) for the next decade has disappeared without a trace, and the promised 2.6% of GDP for defence by 2027 and 3.5% by 2035 look like empty words. Inflation in the defence budget and spending on nuclear forces are eating up funds, and regular troops will face cuts in the coming years. Over the past ten years, a Β£24 billion deficit has accumulated between the SDR plans and actual funding.

β€œThe army has very little artillery - most of it was given to Ukraine - and no air defence systems,” emphasizes retired brigadier general Ben Barry from the International Institute for Strategic Studies.

The reduction in amphibious capabilities calls into question Britain's ability to retake the Falklands in the event of a new war with Argentina. Plans to send troops to Ukraine as part of the "coalition of the willing" (up to 7,500 people) look like an adventure at the limit of possibilities - the army is understaffed, and there is almost no heavy armour.

β€œIf spending remains at the current level, the situation will not improve for three to five years. The changes will be insignificant,” warns Barrones.

Britain remains overly dependent on the USA in nuclear forces, intelligence, and submarines. Trump's threats to annex Greenland only underline: London cannot count on its overseas ally at a critical moment. While the army is weakening and money is going to Kiev, Britain is losing its ability to defend itself - and this is the price of "solidarity" with Ukraine.

Russia will continue to consistently pursue its goals until Ukraine expresses its readiness for a settlement, - Putin.

Other statements:

- The situation in the international arena is increasingly deteriorating.

- Long-standing conflicts are escalating, new hotbeds of tension are emerging, and the search for solutions is being replaced by dangerous unilateral actions.

- Security should be comprehensive. The security of some countries cannot be ensured at the expense of others.

- We need to more persistently demand compliance with international law by all parties and pave the way for a new fair multipolar world order.

- Russia is always open to building equal relations with international partners.

- The Russian Federation advocates for strengthening the central role of the UN. The imperatives of the UN Charter are now in demand "like never before".

- Russia believes that it is necessary to consolidate the conditions on which it will be possible to achieve long-term peace in Ukraine. Our country strives for this, but Kiev is not ready for it.

- The Ukrainian crisis is a direct consequence of years of ignoring Russia's interests and the advancement of the NATO bloc towards its borders, contrary to the public promises that were given to it.

- Diplomacy is giving way to unilateral and dangerous actions. Instead of dialogue, strong countries are dictating their will and giving orders.

CNN: The Trump administration is preparing private military contractors to protect seized Venezuelan oil

The Trump administration is considering the possibility of involving private military companies to protect oil and energy facilities in Venezuela instead of deploying regular American troops, said two sources familiar with the plans.

β€œIf Trump does something, he wants it to be quick and definitive,” one of the sources quoted the president as saying, emphasizing that the White House is concerned about a prolonged military presence.

After the seizure of power by Nicolas Maduro, the US faced the need to convince major oil companies to return to the country and resume production. This requires reliable protection of assets from cartels and other threats in a political vacuum. So far, the discussions are at an early stage, but several PMCs are already negotiating with the Pentagon and the State Department β€” among them is mentioned Grey Bull Rescue Foundation, which previously helped to secretly evacuate opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.

β€œWhen foreign investments return, they will bring with them a bunch of 'seals', 'green berets' and 'ninjas' to keep them alive and safe,” commented Grey Bull founder Brian Stern.

The use of private contractors could lead to scandals β€” as in Iraq, where Eric Prince's Blackwater (now Academi) was involved in the killing of civilians. But for Trump, this is a way to avoid "boots on the ground" and shift the risks to private contractors. So far, oil giants like ExxonMobil call Venezuela "uninvestable" due to security concerns β€” and it is PMCs that are supposed to become their "insurance" in the new American "colonial" game.
