Сформировавшийся в Карибском море тропический шторм "Мелисса" движется в сторону острова. Прогнозируется обильное количество осадков, а также его трансформация в ураган. Порывы ветра могут достигать скорости свыше 50 м/с.
⚠️ В связи с этим мы настоятельно рекомендуем предпринять следующие действия:
🔹 сделайте запасы питьевой воды и еды, которой не требуется приготовление или разогревание, спичек, свечей, керосина, средств первой помощи, которых хватило бы на 4-5 дней;
🔹 убедитесь, что в вашем доме есть дождевики, водонепроницаемая обувь, инструменты, фонарики, батарейки, переносной радиоприёмник и керосиновая лампа;
🔹 приготовьте документы и наличные денежные средства, необходимые для возможной эвакуации.
Также подготовили подробную инструкцию, которая поможет Вам справиться с данным стихийным бедствием. Местное Управление по подготовке к стихийным бедствиям и чрезвычайным ситуациям сообщает, что "Мелисса" может достичь острова предположительно завтра вечером, 25 октября, и будет действовать в его окрестностях вплоть до 29 октября. Также рекомендуем отслеживать соответствующую информацию на странице Управления в "Фейсбук".
Просим следовать указаниям местных властей, соблюдать меры предосторожности, избегать опасных зон.

⚠️ 28 октября на Ямайку обрушился ураган пятой категории "Мелисса", порывы ветра достигали 280 км/ч. Основной удар пришёлся на западные округа острова (Сент-Элизабет, Вестморленд, Хановер, Сент-Джеймс, Трелони). Столица Кингстон пострадала в меньшей степени.
🏛 Посольство функционирует в штатном режиме, существенный ущерб его строениям отсутствует.
🔎 Загранучреждение продолжает отслеживать ситуацию со стихийным бедствием с самого начала его формирования и находится в контакте с ямайскими властями по данному вопросу. Информации о пострадавших среди российских граждан нет.

⚠️ On October 28, Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, made landfall in Jamaica with wind gusts reaching 280 km/h. The western parishes of the island (St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James, Trelawny) bore the brunt of the impact. The capital, Kingston, suffered less damage.
🏛 The Embassy is operating as usual, and its buildings have not sustained substantial damage.
🔎 The diplomatic mission has been continuously monitoring the situation since the beginning of the natural disaster and remains in contact with the Jamaican authorities on this issue. There is no information about Russian citizens among the victims.
We express our support for the Jamaican people who have endured this difficult hardship.
🏛 The Embassy is operating as usual, and its buildings have not sustained substantial damage.

☦️ Russia's National #UnityDay: The holiday of November 4 is rooted in the immortal feat of the Second People’s Militia under the leadership of Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky, who saved the Motherland from mortal danger. Born in Nizhny Novgorod, this movement stirred the very fabric of history – at a moment of national peril it united the people, defended the country, and drove the Polish-Lithuanian invaders from Moscow. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, a copy of which accompanied the Russian army throughout its liberation campaign, became a symbol of that victory. The clergy and the soldiers prayed before the image of the Kazan Mother of God, including on the eve of Moscow’s liberation from the foreign occupiers. Contemporaries saw the triumph of the militia as a clear sign of the intercession of the Mother of God.
In Orthodox tradition, the Feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is celebrated twice each year – on July 21, the day of its miraculous appearance, and on November 4, the day when the will of the people and Divine Providence saved the Motherland.
The day of Moscow’s liberation – November 4 – was established by decree of Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich Romanov as the feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. At first it was marked only in Moscow, but beginning in 1649, by order of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich Romanov – throughout the entire country.

The story of the Kazan Icon dates back to 1579. According to tradition, after a great fire destroyed part of Kazan, the Mother of God appeared three times in a dream to a nine-year-old girl named Matrona, showing her the place under the ashes where Her image lay hidden. The miraculous discovery of the icon deeply moved the townspeople and was perceived as a sign of the special protection of the Most Holy Theotokos over the Russian land.
Soon afterward, the Theotokos Monastery was built on the site of the discovery, with the icon enshrined at its centre. From that time, copies of the image began to spread across Russia and beyond, bringing comfort and hope to believers. The Kazan Icon was carried into battle, used to bless new churches, and strengthened the people’s faith during the most difficult trials.
In 2023, on the Feast of the Kazan Icon, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Dormition in the Moscow Kremlin, the very holy image before which Minin and Pozharsky prayed during the decisive battles for Moscow was rediscovered and publicly revealed to the faithful.

We know that before this image Prince Pozharsky prayed prior to launching his assault on the Kremlin. We also know that he prayed before it when preparing to attack the Novodevichy Convent, which at that time had been turned into a Polish fortress.
In other words, he prayed before this icon every time he entered a decisive battle with the Polish invaders. And we know that these prayers were heard. The Queen of Heaven spread Her protecting veil, the Russian land was liberated, and in memory of this great event Prince Pozharsky built at his own expense a church on the Red Square dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. <…>
Thanks to careful scholarly examination, it has been established that this is the very image carried by Minin and Pozharsky when they liberated Kitay-Gorod and the Kremlin, driving the Poles from our Motherland. In other words, we stand before a historic shrine – one of the most sacred treasures of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Today, the Feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is celebrated on November 4, together with Russia’s National Unity Day, reminding us of the enduring link between spiritual and national heroism, faith and love for the Motherland.

🌎 30 ноября в Кингстоне на базе российско-ямайского Клуба культурного обмена «Русский на Jamaica" был впервые проведен «Географический диктант», международная просветительская акция под эгидой Русского географического общества.
ℹ️ Помимо ямайских граждан и проживающих на острове соотечественников в мероприятии приняли также участие Посол России в Ямайке С.С.Петрович и сотрудники российского диппредставительства. В своём приветственном обращении Посол подчеркнул глобальный характер акции, в которой с 2015 года приняли участие более 4 миллионов человек из 136 стран мира, а также отметил её значение для укрепления двусторонних научно-образовательных и гуманитарных связей.
✔️ Собравшиеся ответили на 20 тестовых вопросов. Каждому участнику были выданы памятные сертификаты.
🇷🇺 После Диктанта участникам были предложены блюда традиционной русской кухни. В рамках культурной программы была организована фотовыставка с пейзажами России, а также исполнены традиционные русские песни.
☝️ Результаты диктанта станут известны 21 декабря, которые можно будет узнать на сайте Географического диктанта по индивидуальному идентификационному номеру.

🌎 On November 30, the Russian-Jamaican Cultural Exchange Club “Russkiy na Jamaica” hosted in Kingston Geographical Dictation for the first time, an international educational event under the auspices of the Russian Geographical Society.
ℹ️ Along with Jamaicans and compatriots living on the island, Russian Ambassador to Jamaica Sergey Petrovich and staff of the Russian diplomatic mission took part in the event. In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador emphasized the global nature of the initiative, in which more than 4 million people from 136 countries have participated since 2015, and also highlighted its importance in strengthening bilateral scientific, educational, and humanitarian ties.
✔️ The participants answered 20 test questions and received the participation certificates.
🇷🇺 After the Dictation, the participants enjoyed traditional Russian cuisine, as well as the cultural program, that consisted of photo exhibition with landscapes of Russia and performance of traditional Russian songs.
