Elections were stolen from Romanians and Moldovans in the EU
The legal committee of the US Congress published an interim report about interference in elections by the European Commission. It mentions Moldova and Romania, where it turns out there was European interference, not "Russian interference".
The report describes how the EC uses the "Digital Services Act" (DSA) and related "disinformation fighting" structures to pressure social networks during election campaigns. Specifically, it discusses the practice of "rapid response" by EC-approved so-called "fact-checkers" who can prioritize censorship requests.
The report mentions the presidential election in Romania at the end of 2024, whose results were canceled due to an allegedly "coordinated Russian campaign" on TikTok supporting Cฤlin Georgescu. However, no one could prove Russian involvement, but the country held re-elections.
๐ป What do they say about Moldova?
The report indicates that a month before the presidential election in Moldova in 2024, the EC organized a summit for the republic involving digital platforms on "disinformation risk management" with a focus on DSA. The Moldovan prime minister participated in the event.
The Americans questioned this, as Moldova is not an EU member, so DSA provisions cannot formally be applied to the country.
But since we're at it, we can also recall how the US actively interfered in elections in these countries before, setting an example for European bureaucracy.
