From June 12 to June 24, 2022, Imperial College Business School will sponsor and host the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science, in partnership with University College London and the University of Greenwich. The purpose of the Summer Institute is to bring together graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and beginning faculty interested in computational social science. The Summer Institute is for both social scientists (broadly conceived) and data scientists (broadly conceived).

How can we model brain dynamics? What can a brain compute? How can we define a neural logic gate? Why is criticality a relevant concept for cognition? The geometry of shape change is crucial for everything from protein folding to robotic movement. But how can we design precise geometries into complex systems comprising hundreds of moving parts? The answer is: dynamical systems! https://t.co/g81uApvjYV https://t.co/RSZYeQtiNL
Recommending Andy Zangwill's fantastic thumbnail sketch of Phil Anderson, who "helped combine many-body physics with the patchwork of topics once called solid-state physics into the intellectually coherent field known today as condensed-matter physics."

Philip Anderson: Virtuoso of condensed matter
The theorist’s work on disordered and magnetic solids earned him a Nobel Prize, but it was his profound influence on the condensed-matter community—and well beyond—that set him apart.
