The Conference on Complex Systems (CCS) is the biggest and most important annual meeting of the international complex systems community. It comes under the auspices of the Complex Systems Society. Since its inception in 2004, CCS had always been Europe-based, but in 2015 & 2017, it moved to North & Latin America respectively.

In 2019, CCS will come to Asia for the first time. Held in Singapore at Nanyang Technological University, it promises an intellectually stimulating experience to be matched by an equally exciting social programme.

Travel Award

A number of travel awards, each valued at S$2,000, $1,500 and S1,000 will be available to PhD students and postdocs attending CCS2019, depending on the regions they come from. These may not cover the full expense of attending CCS2019, but will go a long way to encourage early career complex systems scientists to attend the conference. Awardees are expected to pay for registration fees. These cash awards will be disbursed during the conference.

To apply, please provide: (a) reference number of accepted abstract, (b) CV, (c) proof of student status, if you are a student, (d) 1/2 page of motivation/justification letter, and (e) proof of registration. The deadline for application is 31 Jul 2019 (GMT +8) .

Registration Fee Waiver

We will also offer a number of registration fee waivers for early bird registrants. To apply, please provide : (a) reference number of accepted abstract, (b) CV, (c) proof of student status, if you are a student, (d) 1 paragraph of motivation/justification for the waiver, and (e) proof of registration. Applications received after the early bird registration deadline of 31 Jul 2019 (GMT +8) will not be accepted. Awardees will receive cash reimbursement during the conference.

School Structure and Content

The school is structured over 6 days, from Monday to Saturday. The main lectures we will address four different topics: 1) Neural dynamics: modelling; 2) Information processing, coding and perception in neural systems; 3) From human learning to machine learning and back; 4) Structural and functional networks in the brain. Each topic will include frontal lectures, tutorials and hands on projects (see Table below). A series of four seminars will complete each lessons showing the state of the art of related research on that topic.
