RT @EUauditors: 🌍 There is a risk that the EU’s adaptation policy might not keep pace with climate change, according to a report published today by the European Court of Auditors. Extreme climate events such as heatwaves ☀️, drought 🌾 and flooding 🌊 are occurring with increasing severity and frequency. They also have major economic consequences. 💶 While the EU has a sound framework for addressing the impact of climate change, adaptation policies experience issues when put into practice.
In short:
📌 At least €8 billion in 2014-2020 and €26 billion in 2021-2027 were earmarked for climate adaptation
📌 The majority of projects examined increased adaptive capacity, but around 40 % had little or no impact
📌 Progress towards climate adaptation difficult to measure

Today DG CLIMA hosted a 🇨🇳 delegation of key institutions to discuss climate & sustainable finance, organized by @giz_gmbh.
The discussion focused on policies & actions to scale up climate finance for e.g. the transition of carbon intensive sectors or for disaster preparedness. https://t.co/A6NS2a74c4

Safety regulations are in place for the capture, removal, transportation & sequestration of CO2. However, further policy action will be required to maintain safety and gain public trust.

RT @EU_ENV: These forests store 2 times as much CO2 as younger forests
But old growth & primary forests are now rare, small & fragmented
They are unique ecosystems & a prime example of our natural heritage, that's why we need to protect them!

We’ve reached solar max phase, but that doesn’t mean the Sun is causing climate change.
Solar energy that would normally bounce off Earth’s surface and head back out to space is instead trapped by greenhouse gases, heating ocean, land, & air.

Did you spot the comet? 💫
@Space_Station astronauts captured Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, which likely traveled from the outer reaches of our solar system, on Sept. 19. At that time, it was approaching the closest point to the Sun in its orbit. https://t.co/qumQkRoxKs
