Aumento del nivel del mar: La tasa de aumento del nivel del mar costero en África es similar al valor medio mundial de 3,4 mm/año. Sin embargo, es ligeramente superior a la media mundial a lo largo del mar Rojo (3,7 mm/año) y a lo largo del océano Índico occidental (3,6 mm/año).

Adaptación al clima: En 2021, las emisiones per cápita de dióxido de carbono en África alcanzaron las 1,04 toneladas métricas por persona, en comparación con la media mundial de 4,69 toneladas métricas por persona.

Más de 50 países africanos ya han presentado sus contribuciones determinadas a nivel nacional (CDN). La agricultura y la seguridad alimentaria, el agua, la reducción de los riesgos de desastre y la salud son las principales prioridades en materia de adaptación.

La aplicación de las CDN africanas requerirá hasta 2,8 billones de dólares entre 2020 y 2030. El Banco Africano de Desarrollo ha duplicado su financiación climática hasta los 25 000 millones de dólares para 2025 y ha destinado el 67 % de su financiación climática a la adaptación, además de su esfuerzo por recaudar hasta 13 000 millones de dólares para su Fondo Africano de Desarrollo.
