The International Model Forest Network (IMFN)(@modelforest) spans 60 model forests, across more than 70 million hectares, in more than 35 countries.

IUCN is collaborating with the IMFN Secretariat to technically support model forests across Asia, Africa and Latin America in boosting on-the-ground sustainable forest management and restoration that generates measurable benefits for climate, biodiversity and economies. Explore the forests!

🌳In total, forest loss is responsible for around 25% of our global carbon emissions (https://t.co/URY37ZRYGn). Thus, conserving and restoring our world’s forests, one of our planet’s greatest carbon sinks, is crucial in the fight against climate change.

🙌By collaboratively, equitably, and practically managing forests as a single community landscape, the Model Forests Approach contributes to effective carbon absorption, while strengthening ecosystems, and building community.

🦋Forests collectively support 80% of the planet’s amphibian species, 75% of bird species, and 68% of mammal species (https://t.co/pj6g5DjuQu).

🦧However, our planet is rapidly losing biodiversity at the hands of land and sea use change, invasive species, climate change, pollution, and overexploitation of natural resources.

🦎Model Forests present a pathway forward. Through community management of forests as integrated systems, the Model Forest approach is protecting habitats, reducing fragmentation, and creating biodiversity corridors where wildlife can recover.

👩‍🌾👩👷‍♀️👧One billion women depend on forest resources for their livelihoods, yet they are rarely given equal access to land, resources, or decision making power (https://t.co/6XJur4ho9S).

🗺️Model Forests present one important framework for addressing this problem, creating landscapes where women have access to training, leadership, land, and finance -- because when women lead, forest management becomes more equitable and sustainable for all.
