Wet or dry season? 💧

This image of the Kumbunbur Creek, Australia, was captured by Kompsat-2 on 20 September 2011, near the end of the dry season.

The dry areas with a somewhat dull colour in this image become flooded mudflats during the rainy season.

As seasons change, the location of these rainfalls travels to areas with the highest Sun impact angles, resulting in wet and dry seasons in different zones of the tropics.

Here is Anegada, an island in the British Virgin Isles. It is the only inhabited island in the island group that is made of coral and limestone, all the other are of volcanic origin.

It is home to a few hundred people as well as several endangered animals, like the Anegada rock iguana, and a number of turtles species. The Caribbean flamingo also use to stay here in the thousands but disappeared in the 1950’s due to hunting. Now they are back in the hundreds 🦩

Later this week, I will get to go out of the airlock of the Space Station and see the world from above, however it might be hard to spot islands like Anegada with my own eyes. I am tremendously excited for my spacewalk with @NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara 👨‍🚀👩‍🚀

Her er Anegada, en af øerne i De Britiske Jomfruøer. Det er den eneste beboede ø i øgruppen, der er lavet af koraller og kalksten; alle de andre stammer fra vulkaner.

Den er hjemsted for et par hundrede mennesker samt adskillige truede dyrearter, som Anegada-klippeleguanen og flere skildpaddearter. Den caribiske flamingo plejede også at opholde sig her i tusindvis, men forsvandt i 1950'erne på grund af jagt. Nu er de tilbage i hundredvis🦩

Senere på ugen får jeg mulighed for at gå ud af luftslusen og se verden fra oven - det bliver nok svært at få øje på øer som Anegada med mine egne øjne men jeg glæder mig utroligt meget til min rumvandring sammen med NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara 👨‍🚀👩‍🚀 #WhatYouLoveYouLoveProtect #Carribean #EarthFromAbove #spacewalk #BritishVirginIslands
