🌿 People often consider primary forests to be forests untouched by human beings. However, many primary forests are also home to Indigenous Peoples. For many of these communities, forests are the basis of their identity, culture, belief systems, traditional knowledge, and livelihoods. Furthermore, Indigenous Peoples play a critical, functional role in key ecological and evolutionary processes—including adaptation to climate change.

🌈Indigenous communities are custodians for more than 35% of the world’s remaining primary forests. (https://t.co/46SUxBDFYR). That being said, most Indigenous Peoples suffer disproportionately from the loss of primary forests. Together, we need to make a concerted effort to conserve these precious ecosystems and ensure the rights of the communities who have been their custodians for centuries are respected.
