Today, the WMO/RTC–IMTR officially opened the PUMA 2025 System Administration and Application Training for English-Speaking African Countries.

Mr. Benard Chanzu, Director and Principal of @wmortcnairobi @WMO , presided over the opening ceremony. The workshop, running from 25th August to 26th September 2025, is the first of four planned sessions aimed at building the capacity of forecasters and technical experts across WMO Regional Association I (Africa) on PUMA applications and systems.

This initiative is supported by the European Union 🇪🇺, through the African Union Commission (@_AfricanUnion) under the #CLIMSA project, ensuring the installation and upgrade of 45 meteorological data access infrastructures (PUMA Stations) and climate infrastructures (ClimSA Stations) across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Notably, @meteokenya and @wmortcnairobi were the first to receive and install the upgraded equipment, marking a milestone in advancing Africa’s capacity for weather and climate services.

Present at the opening were the Ag. DDEdTR, Mr. Charles Mwangi, alongside representatives from the African Union Commission, the CLIMSA Project, and @eumetsat .
