On 26 May, the Kīlauea volcano in Hawaii erupted for the 23rd time in an off-and-on sequence that started in late December 2024, with episodes lasting from hours to days.

This @CopernicusEU Sentinel-2 image was captured on 26 May, showing lava flowing from the crater. According to the 27 May bulletin from @USGS, "the ongoing Halema‘uma‘u eruption is currently paused".

Estrack’s antennas deliver nonstop communication between satellites and Earth; in particular, Kiruna supports polar-orbiting missions like @ESA_CryoSat, @ESA_EarthCARE, @ESA_Swarm and the @CopernicusEU Sentinels.

A more recent example? When @esa's Biomass launched to space, the first signal was relayed by the Troll ground station in Antarctica, part of Estrack's augmented network.
