🌊 The Great Barrier Reef is a unique ecosystem on the north-eastern coast of Australia, designated as a @UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. It contains the world’s largest collection of coral reefs, with 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and 4,000 types of mollusks. This reality is threatened by global warming, causing coral bleaching, ocean acidification, severe weather events and habitat changes.

🛰️ Data from @CopernicusEU Sentinel satellites support the mapping of coral reefs habitats, water quality and bathymetry (the study of ocean and lake floors) and are vital for coral reef health assessment around the globe. @CMEMS_EU data allows you to easily access the thermal conditions of the oceans, to monitor and forecast their impact on marine ecosystems such as the Great Barrier Reef.
