Invest 93L is starting to enter the Gulf of Mexico as it moves north of the Yucatan Peninsula.

It is expected to form into a tropical system sometime this weekend, with model projections forecasting it moving toward Florida and the eastern Gulf Coast later next week.

Yes, tropical waves travel generally westward across the Atlantic. This is due to Earth's rotation that causes southward-moving winds from the horse latitudes to turn westward when they approach the Equator, becoming the trade winds.
