In this video, NHC Warning Coordination Meteorologist Robbie Berg talks about some of the advancements made in hurricane forecasting and communication from NHC since that time.

Be on the lookout all week as we highlight some of the improvements made in tropical cyclone genesis, track, intensity, and storm surge forecasting since Hurricane Katrina.

Friday, August 29 is the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina making landfall along the U.S. Gulf coast and devastating the coasts of Mississippi and southeastern Louisiana. A lot has changed since 2005.

In this video, Senior Hurricane Specialist Philippe Papin talks about the advancements NHC has made in forecasting when and where a tropical cyclone could form (genesis), and the introduction of Potential Tropical Cyclone advisories, since Hurricane Katrina.
