RT @filac_: COP16 - Colombia 🇨🇴 | El Fondo para el Desarrollo de los Pueblos Indígenas de América Latina y el Caribe (FILAC), a través de su vicepresidenta, Myrna Cunningham, reafirmó hoy su compromiso de continuar brindando asistencia técnica y articular con diferentes instancias la cooperación para la puesta en marcha y consolidación del Mecanismo Amazónico de Pueblos Indígenas.
Los Pueblos Indígenas constituyen aproximadamente el 5% de la población mundial, pero, protegen y conservan alrededor del 80% de la biodiversidad que queda en el planeta y además contribuyen a la conservación del 25% de los sumideros de carbono del mundo.
Durante el evento paralelo: “Los retos y desafíos del Grupo de Trabajo para el establecimiento del Mecanismo Amazónico de los Pueblos Indígenas”, desarrollado por la Organización del Tratado de Cooperación Amazónica (OTCA), Cunningham también alentó a los países, organismos y agencias a aunar esfuerzos para que a través del Mecanismo se proteja a la Amazonía.
“El FILAC fue uno de los organismos que apoyó e impulsó el establecimiento del Mecanismo Amazónico de los Pueblos Indígenas, así como su puesta en marcha, conforme al párrafo seis de la Declaración de Belém do Pará adoptada por los presidentes de los países miembros de la OTCA”, comentó Cunningham.
