Today, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected across the northern and central High Plains in the afternoon, with severe winds and large hail as the primary threats. Make sure you have a way to receive warnings even on the go, so you can take cover quickly if a warning is issued.

Meanwhile, a dangerous heat wave will continue across the Southern Plains and Gulf Coast through much of this week. Have a plan to take breaks in the shade and hydrate if you’re working outside.

In addition, monsoonal thunderstorms across the Four Corners region may result in excessive rainfall and flash flooding. Never, ever drive through floodwaters.
