Could the Arctic turn... green? 🟢

With the Arctic melting fast, ice gets thinner and more light penetrates the bottom of sea ice.

More light > more photosynthesis > algae bloom.

This also means more zooplankton is available to feed fish, which will feed seals, and, in turn, polar bears.

Although we can’t actually see algae within sea ice from space, we can estimate light availability, so if we can map the light reaching the algae, we can get an idea of when and how much they might bloom.
