RT @ESA_EO: From space, Earth's water can have many different colours!
πŸŸ’πŸ”΅βšͺ️🟀

Blooms caused by excessive growth of marine algae colour water green.

Coccolithophores periodically shed their tiny scales called β€˜coccoliths’ into the surrounding waters. They are rich in calcium so they add a bright, milky-turquoise colour to the water.

Tannins and lignins from roots, leaves, seeds, bark and soil can leach into the water and give it a brown or even black colour.
