Aral Sea's shrinkage as seen from space:
a substantial drop in the Aral Sea's water levels is clear in these 2025 and 2018 images from @CopernicusEU Sentinel-2, showing the stark change in the Large and Small Aral.
In the 2025 image we can see how the eastern part of the Large Aral has completely vanished, and is now known as the Aralkum Desert; efforts to protect the remaining waters of the Small Aral are ongoing.
