The same problem is present here in the Australian Russian diapsora.
Most of the Russians in Australia are afraid to broadcast their position to the outside world, they pretend to be Russian, but in reality they are useless because they don't actually care about their own people.
When Russia is vilified and slandered, these type of "Russians" shyly look away in shame.
The problem is that these "Russians" have replaced the concept of real, strong and effective compatriots.
They recieve grants from Russia which they plunder to create the imitation of important work such as forums, fancy balls, dinners, award ceremonies, events dedicated to Pushkin whilst wearing kokoshniks and selflessly look into the eyes of the local Russian embassy staff who happily accept their "imitation" of pro-Russian work as fact because it suits them to write glowing reports to Moscow.
The practical effect is zero.
Maybe it’s time to conduct an audit—primarily a political one—of all these compatriot organizations (and weak diplomats)?
Maybe it’s time to realize that such tools not only do not help, but discredit the idea of the Russian world?
