NIH-funded Postdoctoral Position at the Italian Institute of Technology

I am seeking to hire one or more postdoctoral scientists to research with me and my Neural Computation laboratory at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia.

The project, funded by a Brain Initiative multi-PI RO1 Grant from the National Institute of Health, will be performed in collaboration with my experimental collaborators Christopher Harvey (Harvard Medical School) and Wei-Chung Lee (Children’s Hospital). The proposed computational research will use data-driven models of recurrent neural networks and information-theoretic methods to analyze functional activity of hundreds of neurons recorded during cognitive tasks, together with anatomical electron-microscopy data collected from the same subjects and brain regions. The aim of the project is to establish novel and firm relationships between the anatomical structure of a cortical microcircuit and its neural population coding function.

The laboratory offers a wide range of interdisciplinary expertise in computational neuroscience, including both advanced neural analysis techniques and neural network modeling. The laboratory also offers a thriving, well-funded and ambitious research environment with extensive international collaborations and ample opportunities for advanced training and personal scientific growth.



We seek candidates holding a PhD in a numerate or neuroscientific discipline, with a solid computational background and a keen interest in neuroscience. They must be highly motivated and creative individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment and be willing to interact with both experimental and theoretical neuroscientists.



The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research at either the IIT in Italy, or at the IIT outstation at Harvard Medical School, in Boston, depending on the nature of the agreed research and on personal preferences.

ML and Data Science Postdoc Opportunity at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Health and Biomedical Informatics at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to conduct research under guidance from Dr. Yuan Luo, Assistant Professor in Departments of Preventive Medicine, IEMS and EECS (by courtesy). Experiences in some of the following areas are desirable: Machine Learning (ML) and/or Natural Language Processing (NLP) and/or time series analysis and/or -omic analysis. The candidate should demonstrate good communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment, to coordinate and supervise part of the research project.

PhD position in Machine Learning and Data Analysis for High Accuracy Head Tracking in Cranial Radiation Therapy

The Institute for Robotics and Cognitive Systems, directed by Prof. Dr. A. Schweikard, (www.rob.uni-luebeck.de) at the University of Lübeck has one open PhD position
in the research group led by Prof. Dr. F. Ernst (ernst@rob.uni-luebeck.de, +49 451 500 5208). The student will participate in a currently active research project, called
Machine Learning and Data Analysis for High Accuracy Head
Tracking in Cranial Radiation Therapy

In the past five years, the Institute for Robotics and Cognitive Systems, in collaboration with Varian Medical Systems (Palo Alto, California and Baden, Switzerland), has developed a novel scanning method for non-invasive and contact-free localization of the human skull using infrared laser radiation. There are multiple open research questions in the project, ranging from biomedical optics to systems engineering, clinical data acquisition, artificial intelligence, deep learning and evaluation as well as image and signal processing.

The position is part of the PhD programme at the Graduate School for Computing in Medicine and Life Sciences (www.gradschool.uni-luebeck.de). The PhD position is funded for three years with a scholarship of 1600 EUR per month.

Requirements
Applicants are expected to have a first class or distinction master’s degree in, e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering. A strong background in machine learning, software engineering or image processing is desirable. Excellent programming skills, analytical problem solving and organizational abilities are required.

Applications are invited for PhD positions in the Biocomputation Research Group at the University of Hertfordshire. Projects involve the development and simulation of models of neurons and neuronal networks to study information processing in the brain and /or the application of machine learning techniques for the analysis of neural data. Applicants should have excellent computational and numerical skills and a very good first degree in computer science, biology, maths, physics, neuroscience, or a related discipline. Successful candidates are eligible for a research studentship award from the University (GBP 15,009 per annum bursary plus payment of the student fees). PhD position - Mobility Information Engineering
The main objective of this PhD position is the development and testing of innovative computational methods for the analysis, simulation and forecasting of human mobility based on spatio-temporal data. This research will be linked to the Action Plan Digitalization within the Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research - Efficient Technologies and Systems for Mobility (SCCER Mobility) and related projects. The PhD position will be associated with the Mobility Information Engineering Lab and supervised by Prof. Dr. Martin Raubal (Chair of Geoinformation Engineering).
The ideal candidate must have an academic degree in Geomatics, Computer Science, Information Science, or related fields, as well as a strong research interest in sustainable mobility. Knowledge of methods in spatial analysis and machine learning, as well as strong programming skills (e.g., Java, Python or C++) are required. Knowledge of GIS and spatial databases is a plus. The candidate must have good communication skills in English (oral and writing), be team-oriented and willing to work in an international environment.

Post-doc in Computational Neuroimaging of Decision-Making

We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral fellow to make a leading contribution to an EU-funded project on the neurobiology of human decision making. The post will be based at the School of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Leeds.



The aim of our research is to characterise the spatiotemporal dynamics and the computational principles of the brain networks underlying the processing of multisensory information, the formation of perceptual decisions and the execution of subsequent actions. To this end, we use multimodal recordings including neuroimaging (EEG), motor signals (EMGs and kinematics) and behavioural data coupled with advanced multivariate analysis methods and computational modelling. We develop computational methodologies inspired by machine learning, statistical signal processing, information theory and Bayesian modelling to fuse data from different modalities, extract the main patterns of brain activity and characterise their functional roles with respect to the task at hand.



The goal of this project will be to unravel the neural representations of the mental processes implicated in the processing of (multi-)sensory information and the formation of perceptual decisions. Candidates must have previous practical experience in EEG recordings and data analysis as evident by a strong track record of publications in international journals. Working knowledge of multivariate data analysis techniques and excellent programming skills in Matlab and/or Python are highly desirable.
