Professor Stefano Ermon is seeking an outstanding researcher for a postdoctoral position at the Stanford SUSTAIN group (http://sustain.stanford.edu/). The postdoc will carry out Machine Learning research on a broad range of topics, including learning with limited supervision, spatio-temporal modeling, learning from multimodal data, and computer vision applications. The postdoc will have the opportunity to collaborate with other researchers across disciplines at Stanford, particularly those working on areas of sustainable development as part of a Data for Development Initiative. We welcome applications from candidates with diverse educational backgrounds.

Required qualifications:
A Ph.D. (completed by start of employment) in Computer Science, or an relevant area

I am looking for a PhD student staring at Boston University in Fall 2019.

I currently have two projects:

In the first project we will determine whether the Mississippi delta is able to survive sea level rise. We will use the model Delft3D coupled to new remote sensing data collected by NASA. The second project explores the conversion of coastal forests to salt marsh triggered by sea level rise. Together with a group of ecologists from different universities, we will carry out a large scale experiment by cutting pine trees near the marsh boundary at the Virginia Coast Reserve LTER ( https://www.vcrlter.virginia.edu/home2/ ). The goal is to determine whether removal of trees will trigger an ecological shift to salt marsh vegetation. Our group is in charge of the hydrological component: we will install a suite of instruments to measure groundwater level and salinity, soil moisture, precipitation, light availability, etc., for 5-10 years.

You are excited about how a cardiac catheter can treat a patient's heart during a minimal-invasive approach allowing the patient to recover within the following day? Tasks
Current percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) catheters are highly sophisticated tools in the field of cardiovascular technologies. Constantly rising demands on the catheter's quality, reliability, performance and cost-effectiveness is increasingly challenging in the field of catheter development. To tackle these challenges, it is the goal to develop a new catheter design and investigate on new production methods within the next three years. In a scientific approach and in close collaboration with the industrial partner, the candidate will

conceptualize a catheter design with respect to given requirements

Requirements
You have a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering or Microtechnology. A strong mechanical background will be preferred. You should be enthusiastic for conducting research on cardiovascular technologies and micro mechanical systems. Knowledge in plastic materials and manufacturing methods is an advantage. Interest in analytical and practical experimental work in close collaboration with engineers and physicians is a prerequisite. You are fluent in spoken and written English. Research Fellow in Demography & Health at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

An exciting opportunity is available for an ambitious demographer, statistician, or epidemiologist with the Network for Analysing Longitudinal Population-based HIV data on Africa (ALPHA Network). The ALPHA network brings together ten collaborating African research institutes that conduct population-based HIV surveillance in eastern and southern Africa and is coordinated by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Among others, the ALPHA Network harmonizes diverse data sets into a common format so as to conduct comparative studies and meta-analyses on pooled data sets.



The Research Fellow in Demography & Health will join a team of analysts in London to work on a 3-year research project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to estimate HIV incidence and mortality, and in the comparison of population-based estimates with those emanating from routinely collected data in health facilities.

The successful applicant must have a PhD in the relevant subject, including demography, medical statistics, epidemiology, or reproductive health (or equivalent working experience in these fields); expertise in the analysis of large and complex (longitudinal) datasets; proven ability to use statistical analysis software (preferably Stata or R); and strong quantitative skills, preferably in the area of demographic estimation. This full-time position is available as soon as possible for the duration of one year, with the possibility of further extension. It will be based in London in the Faculty of EPH and in the Department of Population Health, at Keppel Street, Bloomsbury. The salary will be on the Academic pathways Grade 6 scale in the range £39,304 - £44,634 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. The NLP/ML group in the Dept of Computing at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia is recruiting a post-doctoral researcher for a joint research project "Information Extraction and Parsing Methods for Government and Enterprise Applications" on information and relation extraction involving Macquarie University, CSIRO's Data61 and the University of Edinburgh. The project uses syntactic parsing and deep learning to extract "who did what to whom when" from a large corpus of texts. The research involves integrating information extracted from multiple texts and using this information in creative ways, e.g., building event time-lines for individuals, learning entailments between predicates and relations, etc.

The post-doc will report to Professor Mark Johnson in the Department of Computing, Macquarie University and Dr Stephen Wan of CSIRO's Data61, Marsfield, and will be collaborating with Professor Mark Steedman of Edinburgh University.

Postdoctoral fellowship (2 years) in Marine Ecology: Carbon cycling in Arctic benthos

A two-year postdoc fellowship in Marin Ecology: Carbon cycling in Arctic benthos is available at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture, Nord University (Bodø, Norway) from March 1th, 2019.

FBA invites applications from outstanding candidates for a two-year Post-doctoral position within a research project on carbon cycling in Arctic benthic ecosystems. The position is affiliated with the Research Group Ecology and the successful candidate will join the Benthos Ecology research unit.

A significant portion of the position involves studying carbon cycling pathways in Arctic marine benthic communities in conjunction with the Nansen Legacy project. The candidate will design and conduct benthic-process experiments during a series of research cruises in 2019-2020 in collaboration with Akvaplan-Niva and other project partners. The postdoc is supposed to contribute to the planning and design of the field studies.

The post-doc project aims to improve the knowledge of carbon and nutrient cycling through the food web of arctic communities in the northern Barents Sea and adjacent slope, which is the study area of this project. Here, climate change effects were observed and predicted to occur rapidly, while the biological consequences are poorly understood. In collaboration with the Nansen legacy project we will focus on how climate change might affect the seasonal cycles and in consequence the linked biological processes in the northern Barents Sea.

Description: The ADN Lab conducts decision neuroscience work in health and drug addiction that borrows heavily on methods from psychology, experimental economics, clinical neuroscience, and computational psychiatry. Projects span clinical studies of risk and resilience factors in opioid addiction recovery to experimental studies of value construction, subjective states (craving, stress), and dietary choice in health, and use a variety of techniques including behavior, functional MRI, psychophysiology, and clinical assessment and phenotyping. PhD stipends for 2019
STIPENDS A number of attractive PhD stipends in mathematics are available. The starting date for the stipends is the spring or fall of 2019. Candidates are expected to have obtained a Master´s degree, or equivalence thereof, before starting.
The stipends run for 3 years, which is the duration of the PhD program. You can find more information about the PhD program on the homepage https://www.math.ku.dk/english/programmes/ph.d/

The PhD stipends include full tuition and a salary of approximately 3,350 EUR per month before taxes (DKK 300,174 per year) plus pension contributions of 17% of the salary (DKK 41,013 per year). Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization.
