Postdoctoral Associate, Department of Psychology, Boston College

The Morality Lab at Boston College, led by Liane Young, is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position has been filled, with the position starting as early as January 2019 and no later than July 2019. This position is fully funded for two years (minimum starting salary $50,004, in accordance with the Department of Labor’s Fair Labor Standards Act), with a possible extension to a third year.

Graduate students and postdocs in the Morality Lab research diverse topics related to social and moral cognition: for example, the role of reasoning in moral thought and action, the involvement of theory of mind across social and relational contexts (e.g., cooperation vs competition), social learning and prediction error, the function of punishment versus partner choice, and the tradeoff between principles of moral obligation and impartiality. The lab uses behavioral methods, fMRI, and TMS, in both typical and atypical populations, adults and children. Learn more by visiting http://moralitylab.bc.edu/.


Candidates of any background are encouraged to apply, but ideal candidates may have experience with neuroimaging techniques and analysis (SPM, FSL, etc.) and/or computational models of cognition, as well as strong quantitative and programming skills (e.g. MATLAB, Python, R). Candidates whose work bridges disciplines (e.g. between cognitive and social neuroscience) may also be particularly suited for this position.

Cognitive Neuroscience Research positions in Coimbra Portugal

The Proaction Laboratory (Jorge Almeida's lab; proactionlab.fpce.uc.pt) at the University Coimbra Portugal is looking for Researchers at different levels of their career from newly phd graduates, to assistant, associate or full level researchers to be part of the lab in a joint application to a Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) call.

The applicants should have an interest on cognitive neuroscience, vision science and object recognition. The applicants should also have expertise in one or some of the techniques used in the lab - e.g., population Receptive Fields/phase lag analysis; Representational Similarity Analysis, MVPA, deep learning and other computational neuroscience approaches. Good programming skills, great communication and mentoring skills, and a great command of english are a plus.

The positions are as independent researchers in the Proaction Lab, are for 6 years, and the salary is the same as the Portuguese payroll for University Professors (net values for junior, assistant, associate positions, for instance are approximately 1500, 1900 and 2100 euros per month in a 14 month salary per year; these are competitive salaries for the cost of living in Portugal and especially in Coimbra).

The Proaction Lab is currently very well funded as we have a set of on-going funded projects including a Starting Grant ERC to Jorge Almeida (starting in February) and several FCT projects. We have access to a 3T MRI scanner with a 64-channel coil (with EEG inside
the scanner), to tDCS, and to a fully set psychophysics lab. We have EEG and eyetracking on site.

Finally, the University of Coimbra is a 700 year old University and has been selected as a UNESCO world Heritage site. Coimbra is one of the most lively university cities in the world, and it is a beautiful city with easy access to the beach and mountain.

PhD Position in Gravitational Wave Research at University of Amsterdam

Project description
GRAPPA/IoP has an opening for a PhD position in Gravitational Wave physics in Dr Samaya Nissanke’s group at the UvA. The group is active in diverse sub-field including multi-messenger astronomy, data analysis, theory, and modeling, and is involved in the Virgo collaboration, the LISA consortium, and 3G science case, and several international electromagnetic follow-up groups. The successful candidate will work primarily on topics in source modeling with Drs. Tanja Hinderer and Samaya Nissanke, with the focus of the projects being open and depending on the candidate’s interests. Projects can range from theoretical perturbative approaches to relativistic two-body dynamics, waveform modeling through combining information from analytical and numerical relativity, tests of General Relativity, black holes, neutron-star matter, dark matter and physics beyond the standard model, multi-messenger astrophysics and cosmology. The successful applicant will also work in close collaboration with the groups of Dr Philipp Moesta (multimessenger astrophysics), Prof. Daniel Baumann (cosmology), Prof. Gianfranco Bertone (dark matter) and Prof. Anna Watts (neutron stars).

PhD in Modelling Micromagnetism and Permanent Magnets, Technical University of Denmark

This PhD position at DTU Energy will constitute one part in a unique research project where we want to model permanent magnets on the microstructural level to understand why their resistance to opposing magnetic fields, their so-called coercivity, is much lower than theoretically predicted. The coercivity is the magnetic field that the permanent magnet can withstand before it flips and points in the opposite direction. We will study this phenomenon by realizing a novel and fast computational model built on an existing computational framework for magnetic field calculation written in Fortran.

PhD positions RWTH Aachen - The Neuroscience of Modulating Aggression and Impulsivity in Psychopathology

The IRTG is a program funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) that has started with April 2016. In a network, the neuroscience research at the RWTH Aachen University, and the Research Center Jülich provide an international English spoken curriculum with obligatory and intense exchange with the University of Pennsylvania (USA).

Potential PhD researchers within this IRTG investigate a clinically and societally highly relevant topic: the neurobiology of pathological aggression and impulsivity. Doctoral candidates will learn, develop and apply advanced brain imaging techniques including structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (high-field MRI and fMRI), positron emission tomography (PET), whole-head magnetoencephalography (MEG), electroencepaholography (EEG), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), receptor distribution and micro-structural architectonic brain mapping.

Research positions in Neuromorphic computing in Singapore

Multiple scientist and engineer positions are open for a neuromorphic program (on-going till 2021) in Singapore, at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR. The program is a multi-disciplinary effort, that straddles across the hardware (neuromorphic chip with RRAM, on-chip learning), middleware (emulator) and software (learning algorithms), and we aim to develop a demonstrating application system at end of the program. The program hence presents an unique research opportunity for candidates hoping to build a complete neuromorphic learning system. We are now in the second year of the program and have made good progress on all three aspects of the program. We have still a few openings for talented scientists and both software and hardware engineers who would be excited to work on any aspects of the program (hardware, middleware, software and system integration). Multiple top-ranked universities and research institutes in Singapore (NUS, NTU, IME, IHPC, I2R) are collaborating on the program.

The Clinical Affective Neuroscience & Development Lab at Yale, directed by Dr. Dylan Gee, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to begin in 2019 (flexible start date). The lab uses behavioral, psychophysiological, and neuroimaging techniques to study the development of anxiety across childhood and adolescence. We are especially interested in typical and atypical trajectories of brain development related to emotional behavior, the effects of early-life adversity, and translating knowledge from basic science to optimize clinical treatments for anxiety and stress-related disorders (additional information: candlab.yale.edu). The laboratory is located within the Department of Psychology, which provides an excellent research and training environment.


The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing NIH-funded research on pediatric anxiety and to develop independent studies within the broader aims of the lab. Requirements include a Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field. Applicants should have a strong publication record, experience with human neuroimaging, strong statistical training, and technical experience with fMRI analysis (e.g., FSL, AFNI, SPM) and programming. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work independently, and experience conducting research with developmental and/or clinical populations.

NIH-funded Postdoctoral Position at the Italian Institute of Technology

I am seeking to hire one or more postdoctoral scientists to research with me and my Neural Computation laboratory at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia.

The project, funded by a Brain Initiative multi-PI RO1 Grant from the National Institute of Health, will be performed in collaboration with my experimental collaborators Christopher Harvey (Harvard Medical School) and Wei-Chung Lee (Children’s Hospital). The proposed computational research will use data-driven models of recurrent neural networks and information-theoretic methods to analyze functional activity of hundreds of neurons recorded during cognitive tasks, together with anatomical electron-microscopy data collected from the same subjects and brain regions. The aim of the project is to establish novel and firm relationships between the anatomical structure of a cortical microcircuit and its neural population coding function.

The laboratory offers a wide range of interdisciplinary expertise in computational neuroscience, including both advanced neural analysis techniques and neural network modeling. The laboratory also offers a thriving, well-funded and ambitious research environment with extensive international collaborations and ample opportunities for advanced training and personal scientific growth.



We seek candidates holding a PhD in a numerate or neuroscientific discipline, with a solid computational background and a keen interest in neuroscience. They must be highly motivated and creative individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment and be willing to interact with both experimental and theoretical neuroscientists.
