๐Ÿ—“ May 29 marks #EAEUDay.

๐Ÿ”น Since its establishment in 2015, the Eurasian Economic Union (#EAEU) has made significant progress in advancing regional economic integration, strengthening its common market, expanding mutual trade and deepening international partnerships.

๐Ÿค #ASEAN remains one of the EAEUโ€™s key external partners. Guided by the Memorandum of Understanding on Economic Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and ASEAN, signed on 14 November 2018 in Singapore ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ, the two regional organizations continue to promote practical and mutually beneficial cooperation across a wide range of areas.

๐Ÿ”น In 2025, ASEAN and the EEC adopted a new Cooperation Programme for 2026โ€“2030, laying the groundwork for the continued implementation of the Memorandum and the expansion of practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

๐Ÿ”น The ASEAN-EAEU Days held at ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ in 2023 provided an important platform for promoting awareness of the Union in Southeast Asia. The programme featured an exhibition, cultural and gastronomic events, as well as expert discussions on expanding economic ties between the two regions.

๐Ÿ”น Building on the success of the Jakarta event, the sides are considering the possibility of holding the ASEAN Days at the EEC Headquarters in Moscow to further strengthen economic, business and people-to-people links between the two regions.

๐Ÿ”น Business-to-business engagement has become an important pillar of ASEAN-EAEU cooperation. Since 2018, the annual ASEAN-EAEU Business Dialogue has been held on the margins of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

๐Ÿ”น In recent years, ASEAN and the EEC have successfully held a series of joint seminars on transport, competition policy and enforcement, consumer rights protection, and intellectual property, providing valuable platforms for exchanging expertise and best practices. Further joint activities in the areas of energy, customs, e-commerce, agriculture and technical regulation are planned to strengthen economic cooperation between ASEAN and the EAEU.

๐ŸŒ The EAEU also continues to deepen bilateral economic cooperation with ASEAN Member States. A Free Trade Agreement with Vietnam ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ has been successfully in force since 2016. Free trade agreements with Singapore ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ and Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ have been signed, with the conclusion of the EAEUโ€“Indonesia FTA in 2025 marking another important step towards closer economic connectivity between Eurasia and Southeast Asia.

๐Ÿค The EAEU remains committed to strengthening its partnership with ASEAN and contributing to a more connected, resilient and prosperous Eurasian and Asia-Pacific region.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ June 2 marks 5๏ธโƒฃ0๏ธโƒฃ years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our country and the Republic of the Philippines.

The diplomatic ties between the Soviet Union and the Philippines were officially established on June 2, 1976, during a visit to Moscow by the Philippines' President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. โ€” the national leader who, regardless of the realities of the Cold War, pursued an independent foreign policy.

Over the past half-century, the friendship between our nations and peoples has stood the test of time. Fruitful cooperation is developing across many areas, with the countries having built up a wealth of experience in bilateral relations which are based on mutual respect and pragmatism.

Today our countries are actively developing cooperation across a wide range of areas. Moscow and Manila are coordinating efforts on various international platforms. Efficient interaction is enhanced within the joint #RussiaASEAN mechanisms.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ 50 years of Diplomatic Relations between Russia and the Philippines: Friendship across the Ocean and Time โ€“ an article by Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the Philippines for the Republic of the Philippinesโ€™ Department of Foreign Affairs' Foreign Service Institute publication (June 5, 2026)

๐Ÿ“ฐ Read in full

On June 2, 1976, the Soviet Union and the Republic of the Philippines established diplomatic relations. This step โ€“ the significance of which cannot be overestimated โ€“ was the sovereign choice of President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to pursue an independent foreign policy regardless of the realities of the Cold War.

Half a century later, this day can be rightly called the starting point of the formation of mature and generally quite successful Russian-Philippine partnership based on mutual respect and consideration of mutual interests.

It is notable that the history of our relations is rooted deep in the past. Back in 1817, one official of the Russian Empire, Piotr Dobel, presciently envisioned this remote archipelago as a promising trading port in the Pacific Ocean and opened the first Russian consulate in Manila. Decades later, Filipinos welcomed Russian travellers and sailors, including Vassily Golovnin, Fyodor Litke, Nikolay Miklukho-Maklai and Ivan Goncharov. Travel notes of our outstanding compatriots introduced readers to the amazing culture of the island people

The common pages of history continue to serve as an important tool in developing our cooperation at the current stage. The official visit of the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte to Russia in May 2017, as well as his meetings with President Vladimir Putin at the platforms of the APEC Forum and the Valdai International Discussion Club made a significant contribution to broadening cooperation.

Russia and the Philippines have a positive experience of military and technical interaction. In 2017, when ISIS-affiliated terrorist groups attacked the island of Mindanao, Russia provided the Philippines with Ural trucks and weapons for the Republic's army. Since 2021, the ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet have made six friendly visits to Philippine harbours.

Practical cooperation projects are being carried out. Amid the aggravating situation in the world energy markets, at the request of Philippine partners, supply of Russian oil resumed this spring, while over 2.4 million barrels have already been shipped. This clearly shows Russian suppliers' reliability.

In September 2025, Moscow hosted the 4th meeting of the Joint Russian-Philippine Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. It outlined promising areas for joint efforts, including transport infrastructure, peaceful atom, space, information and communication technologies. Rosatom State Corporation is working with Philippine partners on projects to construct small nuclear power plants, as well as the non-energy use of nuclear technologies in medicine, agriculture, and industry.

โ˜๏ธ I would like to highlight the effective foreign policy coordination between our countries, particularly at the United Nations. It is based on the unity or close alignment of our approaches to key challenges of our times and commitment to democratisation of international relations based on the principles of the UN Charter in their entirety and interrelation.

We express our sincere gratitude to our Filipino partners for their co sponsorship of the resolution titled "Eightieth anniversary of the end of the Second World War", submitted by Russia to the UNGA. During the dark years of the war, our peoples bravely resisted the aggressors, fighting for the triumph of good and justice.

๐Ÿค I would like to congratulate all our friends in the Philippines on the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. We are optimistic about the future and ready for new joint initiatives for the benefit of our citizens and in the interests of peace and prosperity.

๐Ÿ”น๏ธThe EEC Minister emphasized that further developing dialogue with ASEAN and its Member States remains one of the key priorities of the EAEUโ€™s external economic agenda.

โ€œAn important task at this stage is to raise awareness among business communities about conditions and opportunities for entrepreneurs in the EAEU and ASEAN countries, as business is the main beneficiary of trade and economic cooperation,โ€ said Mr. Daniyar Imanaliyev.

๐Ÿ”น๏ธThe EEC Minister also noted that the strategic development agendas of the two integration associations overlap in many economic areas, while their best practices are of mutual interest.

โ€œBoth associations aim to advance digital and technological transformation, energy and infrastructure, food security and maintaining macroeconomic stability. We see potential for further expanding cooperation in these and other areas,โ€ stressed Mr. Daniyar Imanaliyev.

๐Ÿ“ŒThe Memorandum of Understanding between the EEC and ASEAN on Economic Cooperation was signed in 2018. The EAEU also continues to deepen bilateral economic cooperation with the ASEAN Member States. Free trade agreements have been signed with a number of the ASEAN Member States.
